Even I'm a NUC fan, I would not suggest others to buy anything before 12th gen which beats the 11th gen in all aspects, AND the 13th gen is coming.

Which one is the better price/performance ratio?

NUCs are so far down Intels priority list it will be a long while before you see 13th gen CPUs in them. There is a reason why 12th gen laptops are so common now yet I havent seen a single 12th gen NUC.

I think it took 12 months from 11 to 12th gen. I got this model Dec 2021.

12th gen is a nice step up in CPU power but may not matter to a lot of NUC use cases.

They never seem to go any cheaper than this. This is basically $50-60 off.

Before committing to this, consider an off lease enterprise mini. You can quite a lot of machine for about half the cost. They can be pretty sweet home servers running micro services.

My son plays Xbox with friends on PCs. He wants to get a PC, and its been years since I've built one. I want him to have a small form factor so he can unplug it and take it with him to friends' houses. I was looking at a setup like this or a Beelink SER4 with Ryzen 7 4700U/4800U in the $350-$450 range. I also want him to be able to upgrade it over time to make it his own.

Any suggestions?

I'm currently running home assistant on a HA Blue (ODROID-N2+). Would this a huge step up?

get something with an actual GPU. You can get a decent pre-built for under $1k.

micro-PCs like the NUC are meant more for workstations.

Not a gaming PC, exactly. You're better off with something having a good GPU.

Yes, the blue is a decent device but this will be a massive increase and give you more flexibility to run proxmox and run additional software in their own environments. I run an i3 nuc for HA and love it.

I would love to see more deals like that posted around here! I was tempted by the Acer mini that comes up occasionally but had some experience with budget Acers in the past that made me pause.

Sounds like 12th gen won't get this low though. Is the power difference worth the extra cost? I'm assuming the integrated graphics are the same?
