This impact wrench has an Auto shut off setting where you can tighten a lug nut without hammering on it. Then you can torque to spec after.

Is this too big to fit in a car's wheel well for brake jobs?
It is way to big to work inside the wheel well but the Ridgid subcompact 3/8" goes up to 250 ft-lbs and is great for confined spaces. Have done caliper bracket bolts, wheel hub bolts, etc with the subcompact and it's usually available for $99-ish.

I am speaking of quality. I own and like both Ryobi and DeWalt. But DeWalt is in a different league in quality. They both have their place. I purchase Ryobi for tools I don't use often, and DeWalt for those I use daily.

The dewalt is depending on location. This is shipped right to your door.

If one is already invested in Ryobi this is a no brainer.
Totally agree. If you are in the ecosystem, and don't use these tools daily, this is a great deal.

Do I need this? The most I do on my cars are break work. The typical pads, rotor, and caliber replacements. I've gotten by with all hand tools but have had my encounters with rusty and/or bald nuts that just couldn't be removed in which case I'd end up at the mechanic.

I've changed struts before and promised I'd never do it again lol .

For brakes? Probably not. But for $159 it makes things a heck of a lot easier. It should take off just about any lugs and has an auto mode so you don't spin them off and into oblivion.
Just did front struts this summer and powered through with a 3/8" impact and hand tools but this sure would have been better.
This impact is big, heavy, and powerful. It's a good match for larger vehicles and/or suspension work. Probably best as a complement to a smaller 1/2" that's fits in more places but if you're only going to buy one 1/2" Ryobi impact.... I'd get this one even if it's a bit unwieldy. It's got the most power of the bunch so far.

Those bolts are not that hard to remove. Use a long breaker bar and cheater bar.

Breaker bars have their place but in some situations an impact wrench can make all the difference. I used my Ridgid 1/2" impact wrench to remove the anode rod from my water heater that was stuck. A breaker bar didn't work and was in danger of moving the entire water heater.

Suspension bolts, Honda crankshaft bolts which have to come out for timing belt changes. As a retired guy I use this tool with care after applying 4-6 PB blast sprays and lightly tapping bolts with a hammer over a 24 hour period.
