I own the Canadian belt knife and Pendleton lite hunter from this line. Both are fine but their real 'problem' is that a Mora is right in this price range and is just better. Better steel and better handle. Still, for the price these are fine, functional, knives that you don't feel like you have to baby at all. I might pick up the Finn bear or hawk.

I agree about the Mora. Got my Finn Bear today. It was nicer than expected. Had a nice mirror finish on it. Haven't picked up the Canadian Belt Knife yet. It seems like a good price, but I don't know much about it and the design seems a bit odd. Maybe you can provide some insight on it since you own one?

I couldn't really get into it. It's shape is strange and I couldn't find much use beyond food prep, which it did well enough because your hand stays out of the way, due to it's unique shape. I didn't find the handle great because it has a sort of square profile on top of the fact the hard plastic material isn't comfortable either. Neither of those qualities made it good for any very hard or extended use, but didn't impact food prep. It also has the mirror finish you mentioned.

Honestly, the Pendleton lite hunter is great. The handle material is the same, but the shape is very nice and allows for extended use. The shape of the blade is also extremely usable, if plain looking. However...I never see it go down as low as the other two in price.

Thanks! That's what I wanted to know. The shape is the reason I didn't buy it because I couldn't figure out what I would ever use it for. Still, it seemed like a good price if anybody wanted one, so at least share it. The Finn Bear though, it's just pretty with the mirror finish. Don't have any of the Pendletons, but they sound legit.

I sometimes wonder if some if these knives are from repurposed government/military contracts where some other factor is taking precedence over user comfort.

4116 steel is just inadequate.

If you want to sharpen your knife a lot or learning to sharpen then this is a good candidate.
