Apple card is offering new signups $100 if you sign up through this link by September 30 and make a purchase on the card within 7 days: (must use safari browser and go through the special link in the middle of the page)

2% cashback is not bad, although citi double cashback has the same, but offers $200 for opening that credit card.

That shouldn't happen, follow the instructions on the link carefully, you have to go through a special link on that page.
The cashback amount is 2% if you use apple pay, a bunch of other cards does 2% already without using a mobile wallet. There is 3% on the Apple store, but again it's like only 1% more, so even if you buy like a $3000 mac, that's just $30 more. BoA credit card also offers 3% on online purchases, and Paypal credit card does too if using Paypal.
Am I missing something? Is there any additional long-term benefit of getting this card?

After you have been approved for the new Apple Card, you can just go into Wallet app and look for the white Master card with Apple logo. Tap on that for card details. No need to add card to that.
Click on the Apply Now button in the middle of the page will redirect to the Wallet app. Should be fine.

Basically. If you shop at Apple.com you can get 0% interest for 12 months on a MacBook for example. But you can also get the same thing with Amazon rewards credit card.

The $100 is non expiring cash. The 7 days is to make any purchase on the card to qualify.
Rewards wise it does give 6% occasionally, like with this Nike promo.
Here the 6% is Nike only. I think I've seen 6% on Apple stores.
It's an Apple card, not a general purpose card remember...
