I have these and they work great after flashing tasmota onto them: https://github.com/kendallgoto/switchbota its a little tricky but for anyone running any automation or homeassistant, its really nice to have them be all local.
If you're going to use it to power cycle your modem, you can always run a scheduled script on Tasmota that pings Google every so often and then toggles the plug if it can't be reached.

Last I checked, Tasmota doesn't include the "ping" function by default, so you'd have to compile your own or find a precompiled firmware.

There's a premade modem restart script floating around as well.

I'm finally getting around to trying to install Tasmota onto these plugs, and I seem to be running into either a DNS or a firewall issue and I was wondering if you guys might be able to help me out. I'm using Pi-hole's local DNS setting to try to redirect wohand.com to my computer's IP. However, when I try to ping wohand.com, instead of resolving to my computer's IP, it just doesn't resolve at all.

C:\Users\owner>ping wohand.com
Ping request could not find host wohand.com. Please check the name and try again.

Do either of you know what's going on?
Do you have the nodejs server up and running?
You should get a "Server listening on port 80" response when you start the index.js webserver, and "version/wacaotech/release.json" response when you open the app as it checks for firmware update availability.

Yes, I did have the server running, and I realized something was wrong when I didn't get that response from opening the app (I was following digiblur's video and he mentioned the same response). I think that even if I didn't have the server up that I should still be getting a ping response though, right?

What is the response when you ping www.wohand.com? That's what's actually used in this MiM injection. Can you confirm that your DNS server setting is actually pointed at your PiHole instance?

I had added both "wohand.com" and "www.wohand.com" [wohand.com"] to the local DNS entries, and both have the same response to pinging, and yes, I can 100% confirm that my DNS settings are set up correctly to point to my Pi-hole (I already used Pi-hole before this).

Still sounds like a DNS issue. Try restarting and flushing your DNS cache. Even without the NodeJS server running, you should be able to ping the PC you have set in your PiHole DNS records.

I had already tried flushing the DNS cache before my original reply and unfortunately it didn't change anything. I think that the fact that the ping is going nowhere (instead of resolving to the website's actual IP) is a sign that the redirect is at least partially working, but I don't know what else to try from here.
