Short Review/Thoughts on Bose QC II, Sony WF1000XM3, Galaxy Buds Pro (original, not 2), and Galaxy Buds2

You guys and ladies are fantastic.

I scored the following in the last couple weeks thanks to all of you:

Samsung Galaxy Buds2 for $30.

Sony WF1000XM3 for $60.

Bose QuietComfort II for $120.

Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro for $60.

Here's my initial impressions, in a very TLD;DR prevention type way:

The best value are the Buds2. They sound great, actually have the most bass (and it's not distorted but tight), and good sub-bass, too. Mids are brighter than the Galaxy Buds Pro. And they are the most comfortable to wear. Noise cancellation is also actually quite good. I downloaded the Galaxy Buds Wearable app to my PC to adjust EQ presets, etc. I'm surprised how loud these are without distortion.

The second best value are the Galaxy Buds Pro. They have less bass than the Buds2, and the mids are more restrained (some might like that). However, they don't fit my ears nearly as well as the Buds2. Samsung went with oval rather than round tips, and the silicone tips actually suck, partly because of how thin they are, and because they have an oval shape. These do sound really good but honestly, I honestly believe a blindfold test would have people struggling to differentiate these from the Buds2 unless the song has a lot of bass, in which case the Buds2 are more distinguishable. I also downloaded the Galaxy Buds Wearable app to my PC to adjust EQ presets, etc., on these. Noise cancellation is about on par with the Buds2, so far.

The fact the Buds2 are as good as they are really surprised me coming from Buds+ and JLB Pro Club+.

The Sony WF1000XM3 are RIDUCULOUSLY large - both the ear buds and the case (the case is comically large. These sound much "thinner" than either the Buds Pro or Buds2, and that's even with Bass Boost on. They don't sound terrible, but just thin and they don't have that pumping tight bass. These are extremely uncomfortable to wear even for short periods. The noise cancellation is very good.

Bose QC II's - I'm still testing these because I don't think I've got the right settings yet. Out of the box, I was underwhelmed with the audio quality. They are the best in terms of ANC. They are not as comfortable to use as the Buds2 and about on par with the Buds Pro. I will provide more comments as I fully adjust and configure these.

I am not an audio engineer or anything like that, but I have had about 20 pair of IEMs. I like strong bass as long as it is tight and not distorted and doesn't overpower vocals and fine, detailed instrument notes.

I watched a ton of youtube videos and read even more reviews on earbuds than I cared to, from Crinacle to Flossy.

I get the distinct impression that 90% percent of reviews of wireless earbuds are somehow disingenuous and that the reviewers are dramatically over-praising most earbuds they review, which has led to a lot of disappointment for me.

Again, so far, even not considering price, the Buds2 and Buds Pro are my favorites, the Sony WF1000XM3's are my least favorite --- and I'm still trying to form an opinion on the Bose QC II's.

Thanks again to the posters who notified me of these deals and to those who provided a lot of great advice and tips about what to download, adjust, etc!

I am wondering does op have chances to try some cheap TWS earbuds and I'd like to know how big is the difference, does the quality difference justify the price difference?

I've never tried either of the above, so I shouldn't comment on those.

The cheap bluetooth in-ear earbuds, for the most part, are very bad at detailed sound and highs. In other words, you don't hear the separation of the instruments, and the bass is not well controlled and distorts the music, or the highs are not well controlled and are "screechy", or both.

The best "cheap" set I used were the FIL something or other. The M P O P 30 and another M P O W something or other version were okay, too (bass heavy, but at least a bit detailed - no longer sold on Amazon for fake reviews, I guess).

These are all on another playing field (Samsung Buds2, Buds Pro, Sony WF1000XM3 and Bose QC 2). On all of these, you can hear clean, detailed separation of voices and instruments, the bass is tight and doesn't "muddy" the rest of the music, vocals are forward just right.

Now, bass vs treble vs highs and lows are a subjective thing, but I like a bit more bass and sub bass that rumbles in my music and that's why I think the Samsung Galaxy Buds2 are dramatically underrated by most reviewers. These are great earbuds for anything less than $60 and a steal at anything less than $30. They have great, tight bass and sub bass, great mids and highs, and they're much louder without distortion than many reviewers claims.

The Galaxy Buds Pro are obviously a steal at $60, too. They don't have as pronounced bass or sub bass to my ears, and the vocals and mids are a bit more reserved, which some might prefer, compared to the Buds2. I find no difference win accuracy between the Buds Pro and Buds2 tbh.

I used to NOT be so into the Harman Curve that AKG has used in the Samsung lineup because it sounded a bit thin in terms of bass and sub bass, and just want to reiterate that the Buds2 are really underrated because they have really punch, tight bass. The Galaxy Buds 2 are close to the Buds 2, and possibly may have a BIT more separation of details. I'm keeping both.

I'm still playing around with the WF1000XM3s and Bose QC IIs to try and get the settings just right.

Nothing will match wired over the ear headphones (yet). But these are really, really good given that they are bluetooth.
and
I'm going to sell the Sony's (maybe Bose - we'll see b/c I'm still testing them) to someone here who wants them for what I paid if they want instead of returning.
