Not a bad deal but ugh it's such a weird config. Ddr4 ram (upgradable at least), 1200 resolution display, 512gb nvme. It's kind of a hard sell vs other options (Lenovo). Also weird that the g14 has much better specs despite being a smaller form factor. The only rationale is they purposely skimped on the g16 to make the m16 more attractive.

In the market for a laptop for the first time in a long time. Why do they still make laptops with FHD screens, or FHD+ FWIW? My $300 Chromebook has a 2k screen.

I think it's an attempt to align the GPU with the native resolution somewhat in gaming laptops and high refresh rates. The 4060 is a very nice FHD gpu for example, but less so for higher resolutions (excepting for DLSS etc).

The M16 can be had for around $1100 for an openbox at Bestbuy for the 4070 version. I agree that the value just isn't there for this G16.

This doesn't make sense. 4070 mobile is an Nvidia failure and maybe 10% more fps in some games. Open box g16 is $870. Paying 25% more for 10% more in (in some cases unnecessary) performance boost...

ps. also it's not 1100 but 1270... so more like 40% more expensive...

It is that price when it goes on sale every few weeks. Imo the m16 is worth that $200 premium because it has a much nicer display, ddr5, double the storage, and more powerful cpu and gpu. The 4070 alone isn't worth paying the premium but if you're willing to chance open box on asus (you can only use third party extended warranty unlike Lenovo) I think it's worth that premium.

I see your point, and it does have sense for some people. For me, this CPU is already an overkill to load 4060/4070. DDR5 will not give much, if anything. I prefer to play on large screen and playing games on 4060/4070 eats batteries real fast, like 1.5h. Double SSD is nice.
