Why would they go DDR4 on this new model when the old models have DDR5? Weird.

Slower, older RAM, processor barely faster than i7-12700H. I am not sure what ASUS is doing here. 4060 vs. 3060 and the mixed bag changes counts as "upgrade" ?

For those who are curious about the CPU. Passmark scores:

- i7-13620H: 27,188
- i7-12700H: 26,610 (2.6% slower)

This model puzzles me.

That's how most of the laptop vendors trash their reputations. They build something great, get a few hit iterations and then greed kicks in and they would want to get all the golden eggs by slaughtering the gold-egg laying goose!

Even AMD after rebuilding the reputation tried to cheap out with 7th Gen SoC when they still crammed in Zen 2 based iGPU in certain models. That is simple deception as common Joe would just see 7th Gen Processor and would assume it being latest and greatest.

It's meant to be the budget oriented model in the Zephyrus line. Not even sure it should have Zephyrus in the name though.

That makes sense. It is probably worth noting that this laptop is still better than a lot of options in this price point. It just isn't an upgrade to the previous model of the same line.

I'm thinking maybe "Zephyrus Blows" as their budget line name? It sticks with the god of the wind theme.

The difference between base DDR4 and DDR5 in real life performance is negligible. Even on paper it's not something to write home about.

In real world applications and gaming this will not matter.

While there's only one SO-DIMM slot, there's now 16GB of onboard memory (compared to 8GB on last year's models, even in higher spec configs). I'd take proper dual channel 32GB DDR4 over async DC 40GB DDR5 any day.

This allows for the cheapest upgrade path to 32GB RAM, at mere $25-30.
