Is this just an expensive mouse pad for the Apple fanboys?
Trackpad, my dude. Trackpad is an input device. Mousepad is a cushion for an input device.
I've used a Magic Trackpad in place of a mouse for years. Much easier on the wrists than a mouse. It also provides access to the Force Touch gestures[apple.com] built into the macOS interface.
apple tax never ceases to amuse me (blah blah yes the design is nicer, the fit and finish)
for anyone looking for alternatives, a quick amazon search turns up a couple wireless trackpads for $30-45, 4 stars with hundreds of reviews, or entire keyboards with trackpads starting under $30

Yes because Amazon reviews are totally reliable and the quality of those cheap products are the same as Apple. 👍
Thank you! There's no way I'm introducing lightning cables to my setup, so I appreciate you pointing this out.
Sure thing.
I own this and the matching black keyboard with number pad and love them. I was sad when they discontinued these black versions. Lightening charging is annoying but has been easy enough to grab one of my extra cables and plug it up at my work station.
If you do pick this up, buy BetterTouchTool. That makes this worth the money.
I've been a long time user of better touch tool. Finally bought the lifetime licence. Only used it for mouse shortcuts and window snapping though, what do you recommend for the trackpad?
