I bought this computer for my dad a few weeks ago. It's awful. The keyboard is a lighter grey than what appears in the photos. The text is white, so unless the lighting is perfect the keys are unreadable. You can see it in the top-down photo on the site. It performed well, but you'll spend all day trying to find an angle to see the keys.

I know they probably meant 15w output. But then again, their specs did not mention anything about PD input. Not all USB-C have PD.
This laptop has Thunderbolt 4. Most of Thunderbolt ports support display port and power delivery. Only laptops I've see that support display port without power delivery are gaming laptops which require more power than standard USB-C 100w. This laptop needs no more than 65w.

No. I have looked at the manual and called Acer, they have confirmed that it does NOT support Power Delivery to charge the laptop.

that's IF you have one of the supported models. This model is NOT supported. The manual is for MANY models.

"DC-in: requires power adapter or power source providing 65 W at 20 V. (A515-47)".
That means, ONLY A515-47 supports it. OP item is for A515-57.

Agreed. I'm saying you could turn it off and charge it back up with USB-C at 15w instead of the full 65w. It'll charge the internal battery while turned off, it'll just take longer.
No it won't. It might actually fry the port. That port is only for power OUT, not IN.

I wouldn't get an Intel, since Ryzen took the lead. It's a bit cheaper, and more power efficient. Basically it's like Intel is stuck a couple of years back.

Power efficiency is critical when in a laptop. Anyone who owned an old laptop realizes how useless the 2-3 hour battery life is. Living wallplug to wallplug is far from mobile.

Thunderbolt 4 spec requires 100W power delivery on at least 1 thunderbolt port. So it looks like the acer manual just glossed over that and didn't mention power on the thunderbolt version. It will probably take an USB-C power adapter on the port. I've never seen a TB4 port that wouldn't take a 65W adapter.

Mediocre screen quality in a 16:9 aspect ratio. Low RAM, small SSD, middle-tier processor. This is exactly the kind of computer that's gonna be less than $500 on Black Friday. Strongly advise against this price.
If you open the laptop, it has 2 upgradeable ram slots (up to 64GB RAM), 2 nvme SSD slots, and you can upgrade the wifi card. That's an outstanding amount of upgradability in a sub $500 laptop. Most laptops have soldered ram and rarely have 2 ssd slots inside.

It also has Thunderbolt 4.
So you can connect an external GPU for great gaming performance.

I'd say the screen (16:9 ratio) and keyboard are the biggest negatives.
So if you intend to only use this laptop on desk, you can connect another keyboard and an external monitor to work around those issues.

Here is a laptop teardown video for this laptop to see what the internals look like:

I love all that upgradability though 2 nvme slots feels like overkill at this price range

OS and apps on the first nvme drive. Games on the second nvme drive. So if the OS drive crashes, you still have your games intact.

Or install Linux on the second SSD and leave windows on the first SSD.
