Apparently Netflix has seasons 1-5, all in 4K.

And it can stand on its own, without requiring familiarity with Breaking Bad. However, that series does add a different dimension to BCS, for sure.
As far as a "deal", Netflix has all episodes of seasons 1-5 ready to watch now. I did pony up the $ to stream the final season 6, and was not disappointed. What a ride!

If you didn't already know who Mike, Gus, Tuco, Walt, Hector, Lydia, Huell, The Cousins, Don Eladio, Juan Bolsa, Crazy-8, Gail, Francesca, Peter Schuler, Walt, Jesse, Hank, Gomie, Marie etc were from BB, you'd be lost when they just show up in BCS. Because it's assumed you know their backstory.
For example, I remember when they switched out Don Harvey, the actor who played the original cab driver. I didn't make the connection when a different guy walked into Carol Burnett's kitchen. So it totally ruined that episode for me, because I didn't know or realize who that guy was.
If you didn't already know who Mike, Gus, Tuco, Walt, Hector, Lydia, Huell, The Cousins, Don Eladio, Juan Bolsa, Crazy-8, Gail, Francesca, Peter Schuler, Walt, Jesse, Hank, Gomie, Marie etc were from BB, you'd be lost when they just show up in BCS. Because it's assumed you know their backstory.

At no time did I feel lost watching the BCS prequel series first (out of intended order, yes). I would have had different takes on some characters, for sure (notably Mike and Gus). But so many new and great characters were in BCS, among them Chuck, Howard, and of course Kim Wexler. It's totally nuts that BCS never won an Emmy!
