If you are running, 955 even with its full price is the best deal out there and at $450 it is a no brainer. Solar on this version is more of a gimmick as it doesn't give additional juice as much as fenix/enduro lines but it is better than not having it. Only caveat though, the solar version has a tint on the glass due to solar charging built into the glass and it makes it darker and harder to see.

If you are looking for a smart watch first, then apple/samsung/google offerings may be a better fit. If you are looking for a sports watch first for run, hike and triathlon this is a no brainer, for biking it is a pretty good deal but there might be better options out there.

I have a brand new Instinct 2 Solar that I received as a replacement from Garmin for one that kept restarting. Might end up selling it because the screen is difficult for my old eyes to see it.
Currently using my old Fenix 3 hr. Anyone know if this 955 display is easier to read than Instinct

Keep in mind VO2 max and training status is totally messed up with the 955 - but otherwise it's a good watch. Your VO2 will never move (the latest beta was supposed to address it, but it did not). A 1 mile SUPER easy run will get classified as a tempo run. ha ha ha

Is this just a "running watch " or can it do everything the Instinct 2 solar does? Looking to buy my first Garmin watch and was looking at the Instinct 2, but this color screen with maps and music storage looks nice. Appreciate any feedback.

Damn, I was in a pinch when my Fitbit died, but I thought I did okay getting the regular 955 for $460 from Target back in July. Kind of wish I held out.

This is a multisport watch for folks that often swim/bike/run. If you are only using it for running you can get the 245 or 255 music for less money. I have the 245 and love it. It doesn't have maps, but I don't really care about that feature.
