If you are running, 955 even with its full price is the best deal out there and at $450 it is a no brainer. Solar on this version is more of a gimmick as it doesn't give additional juice as much as fenix/enduro lines but it is better than not having it. Only caveat though, the solar version has a tint on the glass due to solar charging built into the glass and it makes it darker and harder to see.

If you are looking for a smart watch first, then apple/samsung/google offerings may be a better fit. If you are looking for a sports watch first for run, hike and triathlon this is a no brainer, for biking it is a pretty good deal but there might be better options out there.

This is approaching apple watch ultra pricing
How? One is $800 and the other is $450, almost half the price. But still i would pay the extra if looking for a smart watch as Ultra is an amazing offering. But if looking for a sports watch, hard to beat this deal even though coros pace 2 is at $200 is a good contender.

This is a multisport watch for folks that often swim/bike/run. If you are only using it for running you can get the 245 or 255 music for less money. I have the 245 and love it. It doesn't have maps, but I don't really care about that feature.
255 Music is $400 though. I would pay extra $50 to get this for the extra memory (32gb vs 4gb), topo mapping, 50% more battery time (20days vs 14days), touch screen, quick change band compatibility, body battery and stamina tracking.

Cute. I'm glad you're cooler than me and always do a proper cool-down of at least 5-6 miles so no one makes fun of you for having a 1 mile activity.
I run about 60 a week and my VO2 max works on this watch. Great little graph showing progression to the next number too. Maybe you have a claim with Garmin.

I tried out a fenix 7s solar and the solar is super gimmicky if you're indoor most of the time. Even outdoor, you'd have to point your watch at the sun the entire time to get the full benefits. Regardless, $450 for solar is still cheaper than the regular without solar at the moment.

Great watch. I've used a lot of garmin watches (630, 735xt, 935, 945 LTE, and now the 955 non-solar). The finish isn't quite as nice as the 945 LTE, but the new functions (morning report, body battery, improved sleep tracking, etc) are great.

I will note, that if you keep SPO2 tracking on at all, battery life dips significantly. I'd say I get around 7-10 days with the non-solar version, which is good enough for me. It's not worth the hassle for me to upgrade to the solar for an added day or two of real world battery life, but if I didn't have the non-solar version, I would snatch this up in a second.

Guys, jump in because this is a price mistake. Amazon algorithm saw someone is selling at $449 so it tries to match.

Keep in mind VO2 max and training status is totally messed up with the 955 - but otherwise it's a good watch. Your VO2 will never move (the latest beta was supposed to address it, but it did not). A 1 mile SUPER easy run will get classified as a tempo run. ha ha ha
I haven't found that to be the case (currently on beta software 12.27) - I've had the 955 for about 2 months now (previously Marq). Your VO2Max shouldn't be moving often unless that's all you're training or are a beginner. Good price for the watch, but you can get the non solar version for 399 if you use one of those insurance discount links (which is what I did).

Can you point to the insurance links?

I can't understand why the solar version is the same price as the regular version aside from this reason.

I have a vivoactive 4. I am a casual runner looking to get into cycling and swimming. Should I upgrade to this watch or is vivoactive 4 good enough?

Your VA4 should have both cycling and swimming modes. If you aren't doing a triathlon and don't need mapping, then there's not a huge difference in just the basic sport modes.
