Weight is not bad for this size. Most 15-inch models are heavier.
16:10 is a plus, 300 nits with 100% sRGB.
PD ad DP out.
16GB RAM.
1080p. webcam.
I see nothing this really needs out of the box. Could it benefit from a RAM upgrade? Maybe to help future proof, but not really necessary.
Good post! I would consider this a solid mid-level deal, but I am not the maestro here. TU.
The biggest thing I hate with this machine is it has a digitizer but isn't a 2-in-1 so why have glass over the screen. It's brighter but has a bad glare if you're using it anywhere where there's light. They make screens with the touch function built in, which makes it easier to repair. So, if the screen gets broken on this model, it will be very expensive to fix. The weight isn't bad but I still think the 5515 (model before this one) was a lot better machine and so far I haven't been a big fan of the 16" models.

I looked it up online (googled "Dell Inspiron 16 trackpad issues") and it seems to be a common issue across their entire Inspiron 16 lineup. Seems to be a grounding issue, as when I opened the laptop, disconnected the battery, and held down the power button to drain the electricity out, the trackpad started working again, at least for now. Some people had success attaching a ground wire to ground the trackpad properly, and there's a few YouTube tutorials online that walk through the steps.
Just a heads up for anyone considering this laptop, as it was frustrating when I ran into this issue and I didn't know it was a common issue until after I purchased the laptop.

2. Ram upgrade is only with ddr4 right?
3. Is this laptop charging by barrel or usb-c? It only has one usb-c port so I assume it charges without using the lone usb-c port?
4. How many external monitors can you connect to it without a dock station? You can use the usb-c for 1 monitor and the hdmi for the other? But the hdmi port, the max resolution is only 1920x1080 at 60hz? Or is it 4k but at 30hz only? So you can't do two monitors at 4k and 60hz without a docking station or some sort? I heard any monitor at 4k at 30hz is horrible because there is lag with it compared to 60hz?
5. Battery is 54wh so pretty bad then? Why these laptops don't have 80wh+ like the xps?
6. Is the AMD graphics card pretty bad compared to the intel xe graphics card?

1. Overall the Intel is a better CPU compared to this one. Mainly it has more cores if your workload needs that. If it's a single-threaded item, they aren't as far apart, but I'd say the i7 still wins.
2. I mean yes, the CPU supports only DDR4. The product page says this. Again, DDR4 and 5 don't have some huge gap at the moment and to see any large gains going with DDR5 at this time it's not really a cost effective path. Plus, as with many past RAM generation upgrades, sure you could future proof it this could run both like Intel, but most CPUs released at the start of a RAM cycle don't support the speeds that help really make the new RAM outperform the older stuff. Plus, we're finally at a point where the OS and most basic programs take up a smaller percentage of RAM. So, unless you have a workload that requires it, 8gb isn't the best but it's workable and 16gb will meet 95% of people's needs.
3. If you'd bother to read the product page, you'd again know your answer. On the little helpful diagram, item #4 says power jack and the image shows a little barrel style plug.
4. AGAIN, if you bothered to read the product page, and see the same diagram I referenced in the 3, it says for the HDMI: 5. HDMI 1.4 (The maximum resolution supported over HDMI is 1920x1080 @60Hz. No 4K2K output) I presume the DP from the USB-C supports 4k at 60hz as the specs on the AMD Ryzen page mention. So you can have 2 extra displays plus the display with the laptop itself. Is that not enough? Again what are you angling for here, some 37 monitor setup on a mid-range item? Also, refresh rate doesn't exactly mean lag depending on what you're doing. A higher refresh rate is generally better, but not always. We could go on here a lot about screen quality in other aspects, what your task is, and so on.
5. These laptops don't have the XPS battery because this is the Inspiron line. This is AGAIN, a mid-tier computer with a regular battery. If you need a larger capacity battery, look elsewhere. Or carry some battery back ups.
6. Honestly, this is probably your most genuine question and honest one, but it's hard to buy at this point. Radeon and Xe graphics are both integrated, not a discrete card, so they are pretty underwhelming overall. Intel has stepped up their game, but AMD has always had a decent set of integrated graphics. I'd say with Xe, you're fine with either, but look into reviews if you need to know the specific ins and outs for each.
Seriously, go troll somewhere else.
