I have this exact model, and I love it. probably the best bang for your buck when it comes to a mesh router system. I've never had any internet dropouts due to this router. also has awesome range/coverage.

I cant comment on this version specifically but Ive had a TP mesh setup for about 3 years now (previous version I think as mine are more like cupcake thickness). Ive had no problems with it at all, worked great in my ranch house (2k ft) with the signal having no issue with the walls. Set up one next to the router, one in the living room and one in a bedroom about 30 ft away to cover that end of the house. Pretty easy to set up if this old guy (55+) can do it. I also liked it wasnt amazon or google but thats just a personal thing Big Grin

I was about to check out but saw the reviews regarding security issues... can anyone chime in?

I have had a few TP link routers without any issues. However this is a ac router. Unless people are on slower network and just needs a cheap system to get around the house I would recommend to wait for wifi 6 or 6e mesh systems as they are more future proof.

Anyone know if the router can be overridden so all 3 units can be configured as access points only? And do they support VLANs? I'd love to use a mesh system as I have wired backhaul available at 3 pretty optimal locations in the house, but I'd like each unit to serve 5Ghz only to my home network devices and 2.4Ghz to an IOT VLAN I have set up in pfsense. Oh and roaming too - am I asking too much? Smilie TIA

This is a very dumb question, but I'm renting a Verizon Fios router right now for $15 a month right now for Fios interest. I can buy this and replace that and stop renting right?

I was looking into modems and saw that fios doesn't need modem, it connects straight to internet. That said, the Decos here should work then right?

For me (may not apply to many) lack of wifi 6 is dealbreaker. I have a solid TP-link AX-1800 wifi 6 router already as my main router and since my house is wired with ethernet in most rooms I've used older 'retired' routers to make my own ghetto mesh system until the right mesh deal comes along.

Then again I've got a bunch of echo devices (Hi Jeff!) around the house and it seems like they're starting to build in wifi extending capabilities into those so ... decisions decisions.

Fios does not use a cable modem, since it is 'pure fiber', but it does need a router that is compatible with their system (something called MoCA?). At any rate, you'll need to buy Verizon's Fios router or continue renting one.

I used to have Fios. The modem they supply also supplies tv to receivers if you use get tv also. You can bridge there router, and you can have them turn on the ethernet port on the box on the wall.

Don't get caught up on wifi 6 or 6e.
Most of your devices at home are not going to be using wifi 6 yet.
On top of that, if you're service provider isn't giving you 600+ download/upload speeds; you won't get max benefits from wifi 6.

In other words: get something that will work for you for 2-5yrs and then worry about up grading. Wifi 6 isn't the standard yet.

I have had the M5 models for over 5 years, they work great with my home, hooked up to an Ethernet switch too for a few wired devices
