2in1 Dell 7390 uses Dell PN557W pen (about $23 on ebay). Don't forget to install the driver for the pen.
Make sure to go to dell support site and manually download the latest controlvault driver for the fingerprint to work correctly. Windows update and dell command update did not install the latest driver on mine.
The WWAN slot can take a WWAN card or an additional M2 2242 SATA SSD. It cannot use the nvme type due to the M2 slot also keyed for the WWAN card.!
Do not trust dell battery health report inside the bios! Do powercfg /batteryreport in windows command prompt to get the real story on your battery! Then ask for a battery exchange if it's below the 90% design level!
Consider disabling Connected Standby (modern sleep) which is enabled in windows by default in the 2in1. This has the traditional S3 sleep disabled and uses up more battery. This can be modified with a simple registry setting change. This information can be googled and found easily HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power.

Things to do/test when getting the laptop before the 30 days mark so you can RMA any issues:
* Update Drivers and bios: On the Dell site, under support for the laptop, there is an option for auto download and update drivers and bios.
- Turn off turboboost in bios (F12 when turning on laptop)
- Set battery charge to 80% or 85% in bios (F12 when turning on laptop)
- Run Dell Diagnostic test / Run the 40 min test which actually took like 10 mins
- Test RAM using memtest86 - this will take about 4-5 hours so set aside time
- Test/check hard drive with HD Sentinel or CrystalDiskInfo -- check to see how many TB written
- Install "SK hynix Drive Manager Easy Kit 2.6.0" or "Samsung Magician" for SSD check
--- For Sk hynix, download from Softpedia (retailers site is slow)
- Test battery Powershell based on your post ("Running `powercfg /batteryreport` from Windows Powershell")
--- Or check using HWMonitor
- Test battery by dropping to 20% and back 80%
- Check cosmetics
- Test audio and headphone jack
- Test camera and microphone
- Run CPU test with geekbench or CPU-Z
- Test fingerprint reader

For a surf, email, single task (office apps) don't need a newer processor....except maybe battery life? If I get 3-4 hours out of light use it serves my needs and I think the price/build ratio makes it a good choice. I have been looking for a few weeks at newer processor laptops and I think it would cost me $75-$100 more for an entry level where the build would be much less substantial.

Both has the m2 2230 slot that you can fit in another ssd or lte modem. without the sim tray and antenna in the 2in1, the lte modem will not work. lol...

I would personally skip the modem and just go with tethering, and save the slot for storage expansion.

Yeah, i think the idea of sim cards in a laptop is a lot less important now that everyone has a cell phone that has hotspot option. But it is cool to have it or at least the supposed gps in it. I still couldn't get the gps inside the X7 modem to work yet. ;( oh well, i guess it's best just to put an nvme in there.

With proper instructions I'd have no issue,l installing them, but without them, I'm not brave enough to take the unit apart.
I wonder if they would function if stashed somewhere in the main body?
My 2in1 sees the card, loads the drivers and appears perfectly happen - just has "no signal".
My 7390 touch (with factory antenna) works perfectly, just waiting for me to signup for $80/month for service.

As for the touch, did you ever get the gps in the modem to work? Mine detected a tmobile unactivated sim card. But i am not able to get the gps to work even after installing the gnss driver and it showing up in device manager.
I have a feeling that the mobile network support won't be very good because these X7 modem are non 5G devices.

This whole laptop is pretty servicable, so I have no doubt you can install it if you really want, but it will take some work to get everything disassembled. It will be similar to this [dell.com] manual [dell.com] (for a totally different laptop but they all look pretty similar) I would just wrap the antennae around the bottom case like you said. You'll have worse reception compared to a proper install but it should still work.Actually a closer inspection of the manual indicates you need some antennae modules specific to the laptop model in the display assembly. So you will need the specific screen that comes with those cables or else you won't get reception.

Basically for all the Intel CPUs the frequency caps are recommended values, there is very little technical difference* between an i7 8650u/8550u vs an i5 8350u/8250u in terms of power/frequency ratio (i.e. no reason i5 8350u is cap at 1.7GHz rather than 1.8GHz other than artificial segmentation). If you cap all of them at 2GHz, they will have very similar performance and heat characteristics. (They obviously have different Max Turbo Frequency, but most of the time you don't want to be using those frequencies because of the power consumption - notebookcheck measured 40W at max frequency for this generation which cannot be sustained in most notebooks)
Anyway, I found the sweet spot for my unit to be at 2.5~2.8GHz. It will pull a reasonable amount of power (monitored with HWMonitor) while performing 50% faster than Turbo off (1.7GHz). A higher frequency results in much higher power with less performance gain.
To cap the CPU frequency you need to change the following registry key and set the frequency in power settings. (And keep Maximum processor state to 100 the default value)

Edit: Took a quick look and most manufacturer are making either NVMe (which is M key and not compatible with the WWAN slot) or B key M2 drives using SATA interface (limited to 6Gbps). So it really isn't a good choice for secondary storage expansion. This is one option [amazon.com] by an unknown manufacturer.

Come to think of it, have you ever seen a completely non keyed pcie slot in any laptop that does not have any keying to allow for acceptance of all cards? I can't remember ever seeing one. wonder why...

Absolutely zero quality control or check of anything else aside from making sure the damn thing boots up and accepts the writing of the images onto the ssd.
At least they have been fairly responsive in sending out good batteries. I think we have all so far got replacement batteries with at least 50+Whr out of 60. So if your battery is anything less than 50Wh, it worth asking them for a replacement. Make sure to say your laptop doesn't last more than 90 min of usage on battery.
