Note that this is Wi-Fi 5. I've helped many people set up this system at their house and it works great. If you don't have to have Wi-Fi 6, I wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger on this.

What reasons would you need wifi 6 over wifi 5?

We have used this system for 5 years. I highly recommend it! We use a ton of bandwidth in this house. It's not uncommon for 3 Xbox systems to be on at the same time. It makes a huge difference being able to plug each Xbox into the router or satellites.

I have had this system for 4+ years. Horrible service from netgear. Some updates make connectivity so bad it is almost not usable. Netgear does nothing until the next release comes out which could take months.
I will never buy a Netgear Orbi system again.

Sorry that you've had a bad experience. That's the complete opposite of most people that I work with.

Walmart has this on clearance, check brickseek i just picked one up for $85. Do not update to the latest firmware or you will have slow speeds and wifi will continue to drop. Netgear does not yet have a fix for this.

Note to use this system without issues and have devices connect to 5G, you will need to downgrade the router and satellite one by one manually to firmware V2.7.3.22. You need to download each firmware from netgears website, drop to your desktop and then select dmg file if using a mac. You will then need to change the 2.4GHZ channel to 6 then change the 5GHZ to channel 40. Then reset router and you will be all set.

So does the Best Buy model (router and satelite) come with a USB port?

I had this for many years. When it works it's great, but do be careful with their firmware updates. Sometimes they break and they take a long time to fix. But lately for the last couple of years it's been pretty good. We've had three Xboxes running plus wife streaming something and no problems. All while connected to like a billion devices.

Ideally all should flash and only use Voxel firmware rock solid and reliable.

Woke up Saturday not even looking to buy this and ended up 3 of them from a nearby Walmart for $89 a piece (Thanks OP and team!!). I got the V2 units with no USB port.

For 3 years, I've had the RBR40 router and 4 x RBS20 satellite units covering about 4000 sq ft and close to 100 devices. My Google smart home devices are getting slow though.

1) Is this an upgrade other than max bandwidth and backhaul?
2) My main reason for going on a hunt for these was the USB port. My NAS devices became unusable (super slow) for streaming video a couple of years ago after putting them behind a Nighthawk switch. Fast forward I have a 12 TB drive that I could simply copy my movies to and connect to the USB port on a router.

Ac3000 is tri band so definitely an upgrade over your rbr40.

Did you get 3 pack of these AC3000 for 90$? That's terrific!

Used to use a Netgear wifi extender and it was this same song and dance. The last version of the firmware Netgear ever released for the device basically broke the device making it a fancy paperweight. Manually loading the previous firmware version made it usable again. In my mind I wrote it off as a one time thing since the product was at end of their support lifecycle. But to see that this is still happening with their firmware on a product still sold in stores is rather infuriating. Been using DD-WRT builds on older routers with 100% rock solid stability once the settings are dialed in. Wanting to go with mesh so I don't have to run ethernet backhaul cables. Don't want relive the headaches with certain firmware builds tanking my wifi so I will wait for a deal on another brand.
