A = paper, wood, cloth, etc
B = oil, grease, etc
C = electrical

The number before an "A" is equal to 1.25 gallons of water. So a 4A extinguisher is as effective as 5 gallons of water.

The number before a "B" and/or "C" is equal to square foot of coverage. So a 5BC extinguisher provides 5sqft of coverage.

For the home, ABC is best, but if I had to choose only two classes for home use it would be an AB extinguisher. C fires cause A fires.

Also, I really recommend going with a larger size. You'd be shocked how quickly these tiny extinguishers run out of agent.
This is a BC rated extinguisher, that means it's good for liquid fire and charged electrical equipment. You'll want an ABC extinguisher for general purposes. Class A is normal combustible stuff like trash can fire, wood, couch, paper and cloth. Therefore you want the A, B, and C protection. ABC is easy to find, maybe not as cheap but get the one that'll work
Sadly, cheaper than refilling.

How should one properly dispose of a fire extinguisher?

Consider a blanket as well for kitchen fires, especially if your stove is on an island or otherwise doesn't have a wall at its back. A fire extinguisher can blow burning oil everywhere. Still should have the extinguisher but for a simple burning pan of oil, a blanket can be safer. I bought one after seeing a video of an extinguisher used on a stovetop fire.

Out here in the high mtn desert we normally use 5.56, 7.62, or 9mm. 😆

You have two choices. First, you can reach out to your local disposal company and ask if they have a Hazardous Waste dropoff program. Second, all commercial buildings have annual fire extinguisher inspections. Next time you are near a fire extinguisher in an office or store, take a photo of the tag and call the local company. They may accept it for disposal, or at the very least point you in the right direction. The commercial companies often do not service or refill the big box store brands. They use higher end vendors, such as Amerex, which have no crappy plastic parts, but are more expensive.

Assuming this would work well in a garage with EV charging, If any issues would arise?
oh its going to take a hell of a lot more then this little fire extinguisher to put out an EV battery fire.

this is a vehicle fire extinguisher and a useless one at that. these flimsy handles will bend very easily as soon as tools, supplies, and equipment inevitably get smashed against it. at least in california, all commerical vehicles (business, worktruck, state, etc) have to have a fire extinguisher in them. i have seen countless number of this first alert (rebranded here as kidde) set off accidently and handles bent. this one also appears to not come with a vehicle bracket either, its only 1 1/4lb so it doesn't have a legal 10bc rating. this is landfill junk. buy an ansul/amerex/badger/buckeye. i could see a usage for this bc powder around delicate electrical equipment (computers, aircraft, etc) where abc dry chem runs the risk of being corrosive. even then you should be using a halogenated agent anyways. otherwise you should be buying an abc fe for your general life stuff.

If you're a Costco member, they have one on sale this month $30 and it's a very large 3A40BC extinguisher that would be suitable for home/kitchen.

Maybe stored in the garage. I keep a 1a 10bc within a foot or two of the stove. 3A40BC is more of a secondary bigger extinguisher as its like 10~ lbs and 16~ inches tall. Not saying you couldn't store it in the kitchen, it is just harder to find a good place for it as realistically you want it at arm level not stored below under a sink or something. My washer/dryer are right next to the kitchen so I have mine installed on the wall. Its only 4 steps from the stove.

Is this good to put in a car?

Also, if there's no A, will it not take out paper and wood fire?

This is a one time use unit only. Not rechargeable. Cheap parts used and will likely lose pressure while sitting in a closet. Cheap is not what you want when you are depending on fire safety. Spend the extra $ on an Ansul brand or Amerex brand.

I want to point out that the extinguisher that is twice the size is $22 no discount so to think this half size one is $13 seems like it's not a slick deal but a normal price. Also I would get one with an ABC rating because this won't put out any normal fires only electrical and liquid

These are a direct fit replacement for many jet ski extinguisher compartments. Using them for other purposes might not work out so well, they are small.

The proper way is to show your kids how to use a fire extinguisher. They get a kick out of it. The bottle can then go in your steel recycling.
