I can help you decide using the old SD rule of thumb.

If you are questioning if you need this instead of pulling the trigger...you don't need this and you should pass.

This is a no-brainer at this price if you want a high performance laptop. I paid $2300 in July and it was a pretty solid deal then.

Looking on Reddit, I found several people mentioning their M17 R5's dying on them, BSODing, or having sluggish load times. A few have to wait weeks for a replacement. Your might have no issues, but there seems to be a bad batch that was sent out in the last 3 months.

How long does the battery last? I'm only using it at home, so portability is a not a priority. However, I tend to work outside, move around the house a lot. gaming would be plugged. but it would be very convenient to at least do web browsing outdoors (screen brightness 100%) for the whole morning.
