Tempting. I have a nice enough B550 board I could shift over to my main rig. The other option is a cheaper Z690 and 12700K on sale.

This is great for people that currently have an AM4 motherboard. Not sure if I'd recommend it to someone for a new build. The 7900x would be a better option for most users.

I imagine you could use this processor for a new build and it might even last until AM6 comes out. AM4 is end of life, but this has tons of cores and Gen 4 speeds. I don't imagine it running like an old computer for many years to come.

That's the only way I would upgrade to the 5950X. I don't know what I would be able to get for it locally since I don't use eBay due to their high seller fees. Good luck if you decide to get the 5950X.

Tempted, worth it to go from 3900x to 5950x? I think my board would support it.

Might need a firmware upgrade—almost certainly do.

I've had bad experiences with AMD's 16-core CPU (Threadripper)... for now, I'm staying away from anything their higher-end CPU products

I have 1800x lol. my MB need to update BIOS to support, how do I go about this? update MB BIOS with current setup, then put in new processor 5950x, and turn it on?

tempting to upgrade to this processor, but don't want to go through installing all the software I used...

Yes, update BIOS with your current CPU, then drop in the 5950x and it's good to go.

You will not need to reinstall any software, everything will still be intact. You only need to reinstall windows if changing out MOBO or hard drive.

5950x aren't meant for most people. The only way this makes sense is if you need this many physical cores. I run bots on MMOs as a total POS and due to this I need as many cores as I can get. I am currently running over 40 runescape clients on a 5950x. I was running 16 diablo immortal bots on Diablo Immortal PC client with vmware.

Sometimes these processors pay for themselves for some users. I've made my money back selling gold in game.
