Be aware this set had a price hike from $200 MSRP over the past few months due to the global economy climate

There seems to be some conflicting information I found through some hasty googling. One article published in March 2022 indicates this set is retiring this year. Another article published April 2022 says retirement is now 2023. Yet another article published May 2022 says retirement is 2022. Regardless, this set has been around for a relatively long time.

I picked this set up at this price point 2 years ago, and I'm tempted to do it again. It's a great build and a better display piece.

Check bricklink. It is a reliable source saying this set will retire end of December. Anyway, i ordered from Amazon. Hope the box arrives in good condition. Im a lego collector. Box condition is very important for me

When I was a kid I could get enough lumber to build a real tree house for $175.
I remember when gas was 99 cent/gallon, and I could fill up for $10. My point is, neither the false equivalency of my memory of gas prices or your recollection of your youth's lumber prices have anything to do with the current price for Lego.

100% NOT retiring at the end of 2022.
It got the price increase.
It's not on ANY of the rumoured list.

Brickset (which I guess what you actually met.) isn't reliable at all.

Why would LEGO bother increasing the price of the set for 4-5 months? Think. It's not illegal yet.

It's been rumored to retire on and off since late 2019. I bought it for full price in 2020 because I thought it was going to retire. LEGO wouldn't raise the price on a set for 4 months. That makes zero sense.

I love LEGO and cheap track of the retiring set lists rumors. This isn't on it.

However if it retires or not isn't the point. It's a great set you can get for $175 minus another $17.50 in cashback if you use the Honey add-on. Buy the set now if it retires or not.

No, they probably meant what they said. https://www.bricklink.com which is indirectly owned by Lego, has thousands of 3rd party sellers of lego pieces/sets, and has a pretty active (but not laid out well) forum. Most of the people in there are extremely versed in everything lego and I'd definitely trust many of their opinions.

My son lost a bunch of pieces to this set and wants to build it. Can anyone suggest what the best options are?

oh noze! well, first thought is buy a new set and save the old set that is missing parts as backup parts. while you are his parent to teach him, a suggestion would be to teach him to take better care of his things. have him earn the replacement set so he values it and takes care of it.

If it is just a piece or two, request it from Lego customer support. They will happily ship it and if it is a common piece, they don't bother with charging.

If it is a more then a few pieces, you can actually order individual pieces from Lego but not everything is there. I had more luck with ordering from Bricklink in such cases.

Have you seen the price of wood?

Some people are just being delusional, comparing prices like in a decade ago to now. Importantly, they fail to see certain lego sets are really an art, not to mention it is a timeless toy.
