You may wish to amend your title. There should be no sales tax charged in New Jersey. Clothing is exempt from New Jersey sales tax unless it is fur.

This does have a coyote fur trimmed hood... Does that mean it is taxed in NJ?

EDIT: just tested with a NJ shippng address, seems to be no tax regardless of fur hood.

DWR coating may not be branded as waterproof.

What do you mean by that? I thought DWR is just a water repellent coating. Whereas waterproofing is more dependent on the material. Either way, a 20,000mm waterproof rating, theoretically, would mean that the material was tested and can withstand quite a bit of direct water pressure before water soaks through.

Triple Goose products are made in China. Down jackets are a commodity nowadays - peeps can do whatever they want with their own money, but I'm gonna pass on this overpriced product.

Yeah people get hung up on the "made in China" tag quite a bit. But there are plenty of respected "premium" brands that have their products made in China like Arc'teryx and Fjallraven. Even Nobis makes their parkas in China - and they are direct competitors with Canada Goose (which are made in Canada) in terms of cost, technicality, and quality. Point being "Made in China" is not always synonymous with crap quality - QA and process management plays a big role. The majority of reviews I've seen for their recent products have been very positive.

This leads me to a genuine question though - if you feel that these are overpriced, can you point me to another brand/model with similar or better quality and materials (15.5oz of 700+ FP Down, fur hood trim, waterproof/windproof/rugged exterior shell) that comes in under the $500ish price point of these parkas?

Again, not trying to bait you here, I genuinely want to know. I've been looking for a while now, and this seemed to be the best tradeoff between cost/quality/materials that I could find. If there's something else out there, I would not hesitate to return the TFG parka I ordered and get something else. I'm not a brand snob, so I don't care about name recognition or a fancy patch on the arm. Really just looking for the warmest and best quality parka I can get for the best price. Most of what I've seen from North Face, Lands End, LL Bean, Rab, Arc'teryx, Helly Hansen, Eddie Bauer, Marmot, KUHL, Outdoor Research etc. - they are either not comparable in materials (most down parkas use 4-8oz of down insulation which is 2-4x less than the ~16oz in TFG parkas, not waterproof, etc.) or they are significantly more expensive.

For example - Arc'terx's warmest jacket - The Alpha Parka - it's made in China, you get a price point of ~$1000 it's water resistant, not waterproof, uses 850FP down, but only 10oz, so insulation-wise it's still not up to par with 15.5oz of 700FP down and costs 2x more.

On the lower end side, Eddie Bauer's warmest parka - Vinson Ops - Made in China, MSRP is $580, but I see it for ~$350 on sale. Waterproof, faux fur, seam sealed, 11oz of 650FP down. So definitely cheaper, but also 30% less down, and the down is lower fill power.

Spec wise, the closest one I found was the Rab Arctus Parka which is similar in specs mostly waterproof, faux fur trim, 17oz. of 750FP down. MSRP is $800, and I see some sketchy sites that have it around $520. But with tax it's right around the same price as TFG, and I prefer the looks of TFG over Rab for the same price.

So yeah, that was long winded, but it's a snapshot of my research. So if there is something comparable to the TFG that is cheaper or around the same price and better quality, please share it with me - I've been looking at parkas for a while, and it's big purchase for me and I want to make sure I get it right.
