Not compatible with any of the prior generations - no smart speaker - can't tell if it has a microphone - I use my current nest points as mic locations for smart home commands , isn't clear that these will still support that function but appear not to.

You're right it probably does not, but I think the quality and the speed should be phenomenal on this one

Doesn't look to have 4x4 MIMO, so wondering if the range will be less than Nest Wifi AC2200?

All units are identical, so you should be able to split units across households. I'm going in on this with a friend....

Why on earth they will not make it compatible with last generation.

I was thinking of adding couple but now problem solved. Probably I will buy older router on sale sometime and save money

Because it's doing the mesh at 6ghz and the old ones only have 2.4 and 5

No backwards compatibility is very disappointing. Google loves killing their products off. Looking at my Nest Secure, Google WiFi, and many many apps throughout the years. What's the best alternative…Eero?

The reason for the lack of backwards compatibility on a product like this, is the slowest leg becomes the maximum frequency the entire mesh network can use.

And then there's no point to upgrade. And customers are left scratching their head as to why they aren't seeing increased speeds and frequencies - because they can't when one of the nodes is asking telling the whole system it has to run at the previous gen frequencies for it to work as mesh.

This is not uncommon for ANY mesh system.
