May be a regional deal, but this was available for pickup and shipping for me. Same model is $30 at Home Depot and Amazon.

As a fireman that responds to Carbon Monoxide calls all the time, make sure you have one. Make sure it's not expired. And change the batteries. These do go bad and give off false alarms. Best thing is to replace it a year before it expires. That way, you don't have to call the FD to check levels when yours goes bad and gives off a false alarm. But of course never hesitate to call the FD if an alarm does go off. This gas is Deadly or causes bad long term health problems. These are essential. I can't comment on which one to buy. Check reviews and invest in this cheap insurance.
Man, amazon reviews are hilarious:

"Understanding that it needs a good cumulation of CO in order to trigger the alarm, I placed a clear solid plastic cover on the stove with the device in it. Then I turn on the gas without ignition until I can smell the gas at 10 feet away. It does nothing at all.Do you think we can count on it to save our lives?"

Oh buddy, the gas has to be burning to make CO
Since we're testing for invisible airborne things that kill you, most people can also fill out the following online to get a free Radon kit. This is especially important if you have a living space in the lower level of a home.
A smallish amount of radon in a bedroom downstairs basically causes the same cancers as heavy smoking. And testing is free!

Scored 3 in store. But just a warning, two of my local Walmarts no longer price match Walmart.com at the register or self checkout, you must go to the service center and they no longer price match competitors in store at all.

Well how are we supposed to tell? Shouldn't they have to put the expiration date on the shopping page?
I think the individual packaging has the expiration date.

Store pickup substituted my order with the battery version. Guess that's fine, but I had a perfect place to plug this in.

DOES NOT WORK
Walmart Review, "I bought this product yesterday. I read the instructions carefully. I made sure the batteries were good. I held it underneath the exhaust pipe of my truck for 5 minutes...AND IT NEVER MADE A SOUND. I would advise anyone who buys any CO detector to test that product in this way before they ever try to use it to protect their lives and the lives of their family members. My situation is unique in that I am in an environment 12 hours a day where CO is present a lot. I need a good detector (that actually works) more than everyone else, and if I hadn't tested this product, I would think, mistakenly, that I was protected, and probably end up dead. Folks, if you're going to trust something to save your life, make sure that the very first thing you do is test it"
That's really not the way to test it. You were outside, it's regarding the concentration of CO that will set it off. Exhaust from cars are actually pretty clean these days due to ever increasing emissions requirements. There are some stories where people tried to kill themselves from the exhaust and it doesn't even work anymore, but please don't try this at home.

As for the expiration, it's probably the same as all others ones, they use an electrochemical sensor that now expires after 10 years, the old ones use to expire after 7 years. It's 10 years from when it's powered on. I did have some carbon monoxide alarms last for 10-12 years because I think at one point the tenants removed the battery so it wasn't powered on for a few years. Very simple to include a counter or timer to determine how long the device has been powered up.

Out of curiosity, did a doctor tell you that your poisoning was caused by CO (carbon monoxide) or is it possible that you just had unhealthy levels of CO2 in the residence?
No doctor, things were not that bad - but symptoms of monoxide poisoning were exactly from the textbook.

Exhaust is clean once catalytic converter warms up. I got enough monoxide to trip the detector right after starting a cold car, though.
Testing on a smaller engine without catalytic converter, like a snowblower or generator, may be a better idea.

For those wondering about that this plugin maybe too low, the height of installation for a CO monitor doesn't matter. CO mixes evenly in the air regardless of height.

I have a large crab I bought to keep owls off my roof. Will the high pitch whine cause discomfort for my crab?

I've had a Black & Decker BDH1800S [amazon.com] since 2014 which still works decently. Battery is a bit old of course but I get around 15 minutes of charge time or about 20 quick uses which is workable/useable.

If I can get around the same usage with the newer B&D's I would be happy. It would be nice to have one in the kitchen and another in the bathroom for the occasional quick clean. It would save me the trouble of lugging out the full size vacuum for a very small job at least. Either way, I was glad those B&D vacuums came back in stock as I felt I missed out...
