I have never flown spirit, but frontier is basically my main airline now. In the past, the prices have been very low and enticing although as of recent, this company has been having greed take over. They entice you with s cheap airfare cost yet they charge you $60 per checked bag (used to be $30)... They also dropped the baggage max weight from 50 to 40 pounds. If you end up between 41 and 50 pounds, it's another $50/$60. Also if you book a flight with a significant other and don't pay $30 per seat to choose them, they will purposely separate you as punishment for not paying for your seats. When added up, then end up being close to a ticket with United Airlines.
Every day but Friday and Sunday would be a better way to word
they're both in the same 'as barebones as it gets' / 'basically a flying bus' tier. if you just want to get from point A to point B with a small backpack and no checked luggage, it will do the job.

there are no amenities whatsoever in the flight (no screens, no chargers, no included drinks or snacks - you have to pay extra, no reclining seats), and the seats are even more cramped than usual. and they'll nickel and dime you for everything, so better make sure you don't go over the carry-on size.

as long as you know what you are signing up for, they both offer some extremely cheap flights at times

Frontier and Spirit are one and the same, but Frontier is more a stickler on their baggage policy than spirit. But thats YMMV.

Frontier is great if you are flexible and can afford to wait a day or two for delayed/canceled flights. They do not fly every day to most destinations, and even on the days that they do fly, many will only have 1 flight per day. However, if you need to be somewhere at a specific time or within a fairly narrow window, either where you're going or upon your return, you shouldn't fly them. Also, I found their seats to be uncomfortable compared to Southwest and American.

I have a family member who just booked a one-way 2 hour flight for $15 each person for the holidays (at the airport counter-always cheaper that way, but they only allow you to do so when they have a flight leaving because that's the only time they have staff at the counter), each way, so if you're flexible and OK with long delays and frequent cancelation (e.g. retired, able to do your job remotely, SAHP, etc.) they're a fantastic value.

Bring a backpack to avoid baggage fees.
Historically speaking, spirit canceled a lot of connections, however, in the past few years that is not the case.
Frontier passengers are a little less down market than spirit, but when we're talking about savings of $250 or more each way, I'm willing to take what I get.

It's misleading. BOGO off base fares, and not the taxes and fees. Similar to how some airlines will charge miles + hundreds for taxes and fees
