I have never flown spirit, but frontier is basically my main airline now. In the past, the prices have been very low and enticing although as of recent, this company has been having greed take over. They entice you with s cheap airfare cost yet they charge you $60 per checked bag (used to be $30)... They also dropped the baggage max weight from 50 to 40 pounds. If you end up between 41 and 50 pounds, it's another $50/$60. Also if you book a flight with a significant other and don't pay $30 per seat to choose them, they will purposely separate you as punishment for not paying for your seats. When added up, then end up being close to a ticket with United Airlines.
Every day but Friday and Sunday would be a better way to word
they're both in the same 'as barebones as it gets' / 'basically a flying bus' tier. if you just want to get from point A to point B with a small backpack and no checked luggage, it will do the job.

there are no amenities whatsoever in the flight (no screens, no chargers, no included drinks or snacks - you have to pay extra, no reclining seats), and the seats are even more cramped than usual. and they'll nickel and dime you for everything, so better make sure you don't go over the carry-on size.

as long as you know what you are signing up for, they both offer some extremely cheap flights at times

Interesting.. ! I've never used counter services. Just for my reference, do you mention online price or act completely stranger?
Counter people know nothing. They only tell you TOTAL price, once you tell them date and segment. You hand them charge card - and the entire transaction is broken-down in your email inbox. Not only is your airfare just a few bucks, but taxes/fees go down sizeably

My question to people: has anyone noticed that other airlines take more off at the counter than Frontier? It seems to me Spirit takes less off(?) I never tried others, but was told that even, for example, a future ticket to India was way cheaper at the counter than on-line

Just got the following email from Frontier, "Our boss found about out this secret deal... get it before we have to end the BOGO 😭"

Interesting marketing strategy. Lol.

How are they compared to spirit?
Never flown spirit, but frontier is not that bad. Seats are not the most comfortable but fine for a less than 2 hr flight. Yes you have to pay for your seat selection, carry on, checked bag etc but it's a $29 ticket what do you expect? Even in 2022 people still whine about this but don't whine when paying $300+ on American airlines for a ticket that also doesn't include seat selection these days.

The only real major issue with Frontier is that if their flight is cancelled or delayed, you're out of luck because they don't have partnerships with any other airline to get you to your destination quickly. When booking with frontier, use a premium travel card like Amex Platinum to cover any trip interruption or delay costs.

Overall, just know what you are getting and go for it. People are too lazy and dumb to read or watch YouTube videos on frontier, but then will throw a tantrum at the gate because they want their checked bag to be free.

It took me some time, but I finally found a wheeled bag that qualifies for a free personal item.

For Spirit, if you go through the online booking process, at some point before you actually pay for the ticket you can look at the breakdown of fees. The passenger usage fee is what is not charged if you book at the airport. This will help you compare Spirit 'savings at the airport' to other airlines.

International is a whole different ballgame, because now the point of sale (POS) comes into play. Purchasing the same exact flights at the counter in India vs at a counter in the US can yield different fares.

Should have been clearer.
When I said "these days", I was talking specifically about returning on Saturday.
if you are on vacation, why not just return on Sunday?!
We fly out Saturday night because of time changes between Ohio and California...it's always made it easier to recover from jet lag.

You couldnt pay me to fly frontier ever again.
Yep - F*** Frontier.

Booked a flight with them which was to happen last week. My luck, the day of the flight I started feeling sick. Did an at-home COVID test which popped positive. IMMEDIATELY got in touch w/ them (this was ~8AM, flight was at 11AM) to let them know. They told me not to fly, and said that I needed a test from a doctors office/clinic from within 4 days prior to the flight. Explained to them that I'd just started to have symptoms and tested immediately; the only open clinic was later in the afternoon. They told me to get test and submit paperwork anyway, which I did - their response after submitting was "You must test prior to the flight and we cannot except a positive test result from after the flight time."

So I'm just out money and their response was a nicely-worded "F*** you, kindly".

This isn't really an airline for Vacationers. It's designed for cheap business and cheap weekend trips. Good luck taking a family of 5...
