1) It's based on the original Instinct, which is getting long in the tooth. Tough as nails, has all the basics and good battery life, but at the end of the day…it's still 4 year old tech. Not saying it's not a decent deal, just know that it won't have all the features of the Instinct 2 and that software support for it may trail off a lot sooner than buying a newer model.

2) The "e-sports" branding was a horrible mismatch with a GPS watch that was originally targeted at hikers, backpackers and hunters. Just never caught on.

Same as the regular instinct. The gaming eSports branding did not appeal to that market. The color is not bad. I love the instinct linen . Only this better would be the solar variant.

So there is an instinct 2 and this is leftover from the instinct. So if you like the idea of a long lasting gps and heart rate monitoring fitness watch, this is it. Not flashy, but functional. I love mine for outdoor recreation like hiking and hunting. I rarely use it for notifications or changing music. It's nice to see that a person is calling and more.

The instinct first went on sale in February 2018.The Instinct Solar was released in July 2020. All tech manufacturers add features and improvements with every new generation of their devices. My iPhone 13 Pro Max has 2.5 more hours of battery life than the prior version. Over the 2.5 years between the release dates of the devices Garmin impoved their battery life.

Not very usual, but I got 2 of these for my kids, boys 7 and 9, from GameStop when they were on sale for the same price several months ago. They are great for kids, in place of those kids activities bands. They were using Vivofit Jr. 2, and those were already around $50, good but flimsy and easily lost. These watches are tough and last 7+ days on standard mode vs the solar version of about 16-20 days (my wife and I each has a solar Instinct). They look surprisingly nice on the kids and the band design fits pretty much any wrist size. The kids love them!

Love this watch I bought from Buydig. I wanted a heart rate monitor, and this has so many more "smartwatch" features I wasn't expecting at this price point. I've charged the battery for 30 minutes in the 15 days that I've owned it. Great product. Great deal.

Great watch for $100, got one from Buydig. Tough and lots of useful stuff, but doesn't have VO2 max if that's important. It would've been nice, but not hundreds of more dollars nice for me anyway.

I'm not a gamer either ...
  • The fitness tracking aspects (garmin is good at this), hear rate monitor, sleep monitor, ...
  • Maybe the stress level thing might come handy? I work from home, so hoping I can utilize this somehow. This would be a new feature to me.
As I get older, health and wellness is becoming priority for me.

Apple watch seems to have/market great features for that, but hard to pay and I don't have an iphone (maybe someday to both).

I use my Garmin for the step counter and the heart rate monitor. The step counter is accurate enough to keep me honest. I check my step count in the early evening and if I've fallen short of my goal for the day I take a walk to a nearby store, park or other landmark to make sure I meet my goal. After a few months my resting pulse rate has gone down below 60 bpm.

IMO $99 for a watch with the functionality and durability of this one is a steal. My Garmin is also a slightly older model. The only thing I wish it had was a longer battery life. I'll gladly plug it into a charger once a week until the Instict 2 Solar drops below $300 to upgrade though.
