I would recommend either the M2 Macbook Air with the 500+ GB SSD or the 2021 M1 14inch Macbook Pro over this model. The 2021 M1 14" model's multi core performance is well above the 13 inch M2 Mackbook Pro. Yes, the 2021 M1 14" Pro generally outpreforms the new M2.
The M2 Macbook Air has similar performance to this 13" Pro but has a better form factor but no fan. I really don't see this 13" M2 Macbook Pro making a lot of sense.

Wish I knew this before I bought this a month ago. I read about the significant slow down on the models with base 256 gb ssd therefore upgraded to 512 SSD.

You hit the nail on the head. The M2 MBP is the worst value in their MacBook lineup even though it's still a solid computer.

I'm not a fan of the touchbar on the keyboard. I prefer physical buttons

I chose the 14 2021 model over this mainly cause I really didn't like the touchbar on the 13 pro models. It's probably trivial to some people but I like buttons.

For 100$ more you can get the 14" pro which gives you a vastly better quality and larger screen along with the updated design. Worth it in my opinion.

With ram and storage matched up to 14 pro, and price drop, now it becomes interesting. However with current deal of 1599 on m1 pro is much better deal with only 100$ difference. But if the discount is no longer available then i will pick this up at this price than 1999 full mrp m1 pro 14 inch as for me 16 gb ram and 512 gb storage is most essential part and bare minimum to pick up a mac since these products tends to lasts long.

It's also a terrible design with the Touch Bar, no MagSafe, etc.

I went from the m1 13" pro to the m1 14". While it's generally better and the screen is amazing, the battery life on the 13" wins out over the air and the 14" hands down. If you do a lot of traveling and need the battery I'd take this over the 14".

Yeah, might want to reread. I never said anything about this not being 512GB. I basically said to get one of two other options instead of this model. The new M2 MacBook Air with a 512 GB HD is a better option then this M2 MacBook Pro in most people's opinion. Also, the Pro in this name is a little misleading compared to the prior M1 MacBook Pro which is more powerful than this model's M2 chip. So, a old 14" or 16" MacBook Pro is more powerful and a better option for people that need that performance.

Put simply, there are better options then this model, even though it is the 512GB. This model does not make a lot of sense and Apple will likely be releasing new more powerful M2 Pro and Max models in their coming October event.

Just trying to help people. If you don't really look into it, you might think this new M2 MacBook Pro is the best since it's the newest or because is has Pro in the name. 14" and 16" M1 Pro and Max are more powerful. You also might think the M2 Pro is more powerful than the Air, but it just has a fan basically.
