Well, I've just been on the phone with the local paper's circulation department, letting them know that this weekend I'm looking at purchasing 2 dozen papers and want to know if I can get an ongoing subscription discount if I have something like a dozen or so papers delivered every Sunday. After putting me on hold and talking with his manager, I was completely stonewalled - there are no discounts available, I'm SOL, and no they won't put me in touch with my local carrier to discuss one on one.

Mad

Annoying.

It seems to me that paying $1.50 per paper (PLUS TAX!!) is just silly when all I want is the inserts. It seems to me that the newspaper business is hurting enough that I should be able to get bulk discounts, but I've been smacked down.

For those of you who are buying 20, 30, 40 papers at a time, you're not really paying full price for these things, are you? I do realize that $1.50 is a small price to pay when you're using Qs worth hundreds, but still - paying full price for an in bulk item just seems silly.

Any tips for the newbs here on how to get a good price on these things? Where can I look for a source of either just the inserts (on Sunday - no mailing off for them), or for cheaper papers in bulk? Confused
Do you pay full price for your Sunday papers every week?

The Miami Hearld has what is called the Early Sunday edition on Saturday for 50 cents with ALL the Sunday inserts!! It's great. Check to see if your paper does the same.

The Washington Post is only $.99 at WAGS here in VA and the small local paper is .75 and carries usually 2 inserts each week. I find for the few things I stock that buying the Qs is a great option as well.

I found out who my delivery guy is by emailing the paper on a Monday and asking if there was any way to still get a Sunday paper - as the weather was too bad to get to the store the day before. Within 5 minutes the guy called and when he stopped by to give me a paper I mentioned that I would love to subscribe as I was a coupon queen LOL He give me a discounted rate since I get more than 1 copy of the paper - he rocks! I hope he never retires! And this was for the city paper that I didn't even know was available for delivery - so it doesnt hurt to email and ask :-)

I also have everyone save me their coupons - and my sister has everyone she knows saving them too for me. Granted most of them have some coupons clipped, or since they are from at least 3 different papers, they have different values/coupon...but it's better than nothing!

Glad to see you found them for a buck, OP!

Danke Big Grin I'm not giving up on getting in touch with someone who can get them to me in bulk for much less, but $0.50 off each is a great start :LMAO:

I have a deal with a paper guy. He gives me inserts and I buy him HBA from Wags and CVS.
What I normally get from him is just the inserts (still bound), as he has to return the front part of the first page of the paper. I always have more inserts than I need, but I try to RAOK (when I have time) or trade them for Qs the SIL needs. Especially for rainy sundays, it is not uncommon for me to have 40 of the same inserts.

my father owns a grocery store so what i have him do is call the newspaper delivery boy and tell him to either bring extra inserts or to bring more newspapers. The newspapers go back and my dad gets the credit for it.

So what u might wanna do is go to a local convenience store n c if u can work something out with them. Not a bad idea. They might give u their left over coupons from newspapers for a small fee ofcourse.

Have a deal with a local paper guy. He gives me about 30-40 inserts a week. I just RAOK him a gift basket from time to time. Like others have said, just asking the local delivery guy never hurts! Some will and some wont

For the most part, Smart Source is my biggest interest. Second is P&G. Occassionally Red Plum will interest me, but not as much as the other 2.

Our local paper sells for .50 and contains SS coupons every Friday. SS only weeks save me a TON of money, obviously. When we have SS/PG only weeks, I can drive about :20 min down the road and get another local .50 paper on Tuesday. Recently I have found a great RP source, but have to wait until the following Friday to get it...and then drive a little over an hour to see my mama and daddy.

But, when push comes to shove, yes, I will fork out TWO BUCKS for the Sunday paper when it contains 2 or 3 (or more) inserts...without batting an eye.

what I do is drop by the local gas station on Sunday night once they are done cutting off the top part and help him ease his task Smilie that gets me around 25- 30 papers...any more SS inserts are from the free papers around the city

OK, don't need a lecture on morality or ethics. Before I had a "source" I would get 2 different papers early Sunday morning from machines (we are situated in b/t two cities). After about 10pm I would go back out and get inserts only from all the papers left in the machines. I figured if people wanted q's they would have them by 10pm and by not taking the actual paper, the paper person got paid for an extra every week. There are always alot left over in some machines near me.

I live in a rural area...but I also asked at my local conveince store what they did with the leftovers..They told me I can have them if the carrier dosent pick them up. So far I have been doing this for 5 weeks and they always stack them by the door for me and I've gotten them every week. Ranging from 12-30.

Great topic..I'm curious what others do also and I almost asked on here also but just "stumbled" upon asking and getting these.

Do you live in the DC area? Check the nearest metro station. They have tons of boxes of different free newspapers. Also, I often find the free papers near the entrance at CVS.

I couldn't begin to list the names of all the different free papers that carry the inserts, as they vary by region. For example, friends in Fairfax City get different free papers than I do here in Alexandria, even though we're in the same county.
I live in Suburan Philly. Never go to Philly. Thanks anyway and repped.

I don't have delivery and we are often busy on Sunday, so sometimes I get out late. It drives me nuts, because there is someone near me who does this. I have wasted 1.50 a few times. We also have a special machine for the Sunday only paper that is stocked all week (same price all week) and that one gets wiped out of inserts also. It is particularly annoying because obviously if you are wanting the Sunday paper on Wed. it is for the coupons. laugh out loud
