What's that based on? I've had wildly varied luck with this sort of solar lights. Some die quickly, some are still going strong after more than 4 years.

This is correct. I have had some die on me within a year, some twice in a year after replacement. However, I have several that have lasted over 4-7 years. Just shittin' here with some garbage time table is neither helpful or constructive.

I've had some Westinghouse and ZOOKKI since 2018 and they still go on every night and some others that worked only for 1-2 years.

Not the same design but I've had these [amazon.com] since early 2020 and they're still going strong.

I also had some like the ones OP posted that died within a few months.

I've had all three of mine in the harsh Colorado weather for 2 years. The plastic is fading but they still work great
