The grocery bonus - is that only for the first year, and only for freedom flex?

I am an authorized user on my wife's chase freedom unlimited card. Can i still apply my own card and get the bonus? Or does she need to remove me from her card first?

So if one already has a CSR you can convert/transfer the points, right?

Got approved. Card details don't show 5% for groceries though. I see 1.5% cash back , $200 in the form of 20,000 points, 3% dining etc.

You are correct, unfortunately there are no details once approved, and there was nothing in the paperwork that came with the card, however I called Chase and they confirmed it was on the account, and my first grocery purchase proved it 👍

It's for both the Freedom Flex and Freedom Unlimited, but you are correct, it's only for the first year.

You can still apply as an authorized user, you just need to be approved for your own account. My youngest sister is an authorized user of mine, and she received the bonus after meeting the spend threshold on her own account. 👍

That's correct! I use my CSP in the same way. I haven't paid for a flight in years (except for tax) by transferring the points from my Freedom and Freedom Unlimited. 👍

Great question. It does stack, however it will only be 9% (1% for the base cash back + 4% for the rotating quarterly bonus + 4% for the sign up bonus offer). 9% for an entire quarter of groceries is still pretty good. Hope that helps! 👍

Hi OP

Maybe you'd know, under ever Chase deal folks urge not to forget abt the referral. I tried to google but couldnt find any info if referral gives anything to the receiver.

I just got the Freedom Flex and I am so disappointed that It's a Mastercard now. I had been eyeing if for a year and finally decided to get it this Winter. I just assumed it was a Visa because it was a Visa when I checked six or seven months ago and all my other Chase cards, the Sapphire, Amazon and ink are all Visa's.

The fact that they made this specific card a Mastercard destroys it's value due in one word, Costco.

The whole reason I wanted this card was to earn 5x on purchases on Costco Gas and at the warehouse occasionally. The Costco in my area is the cheapest gas in town, 7 to 8% cheaper than other gas stations. Yesterday it was $2.99 while the typical gas station it was around $3.20 to $3.25. A roughly 7% difference so it makes no sense to buy gas anywhere else and earn the Freedom Flex points. So when the rotating category for Gas comes around it's completely useless to me.

Then, when they have the category for Warehouse stores come around again, I can't really use that feature either.

I feel like this card has literally lost half it's value to me now. And when I opened it up and realized it was a Mastercard, I was so disappointed. And most places aren't hyping how major a change this is.

Now, many may feel that they don't have a Costco near them and so this doesn't impact them. But then I would argue you can probably get different cards that provide better value. Like the AMEX Blue Cash preferred or the Citi Custom Cash card or the US Bank Cash+ Card.

I just feel like I can't recommend this card anymore for anyone in my area. That Chase made a major mistake making this a Mastercard .It probably made financial sense for them in some way to change providers, but it makes little sense for the consumer of the particular card. And that fact that they kept the Freedom Unlimited a Visa and made this one a Mastercard seems like an intentional poke in the eye to me. Like, one reason they made this change was specifically so you couldn't use the 5x at Costco.

I would recommend people now look at other cards first to see if they offer anything better before picking this one now.

Chase does not hide the fact that FF is a MC. https://creditcards.chase.com/mas...iCELL=61HF

A workaround is to buy Costco Shop cards on Costco.com w/FF.

I never said that Chase hid it was a Mastercard. What I stated is that the card has lost value as a Mastercard. This is a major change they made in the last six months. And no one seems to mention that the card is less valuable now that it's not a Visa and you can't use it at Costco locations for gas.

And I admit, I missed that it changed to Mastercard. But, like most people, I'm not checking every few months to see what bank provides are changing their servicers.

And the shop card doesn't help if you want to redeem 5x on Gas. Because you won't get 5x for that.

FF has always been MC since it was introduced in 2020. I suspect what you're actually talking about is that Chase killed the OG Freedom (Visa) and now only offers FF (MC) or FU (no rotating categories). It's a common complaint by people who shop at Costco and don't have an OG Freedom.

Yes, that's what I'm exactly talking about. And as I said, I just missed it wasn't a Visa now, and a Mastercard. And I guess I'm confusing when the change happened, because I thought it was September 2022, I've been eyeing this card for awhile. So thank you for correcting me, because I thought this change was more recent. But maybe I am not recalling from Covid time when the change happened. I just recall seeing the card and seeing it as a Visa, and I have friends who have it, and it's a Visa. I just missed it's a Mastercard now. It just never occurred to me that they changed providers.

And I don't get a lot of Credit Cards. So, like getting a new card is like a big deal for me, and getting a surprise like this, for me, puts a bitter taste in my mouth. I'm not saying it's not my fault. And I have no problem with Mastercard specifically, My Debit card is a Mastercard. This is like, the 4th Credit Card I've gotten in 30 years.

I just feel like I need to voice that this is more of an issue for this specific type of card. Because this card now seems much less valuable to me now that I realize I can't use it in Costco walk in's and for gas. And I feel that, if I want Chase to change this card back to a Visa, I need to express that this card seems much less valuable than what it was, IMO. And hopefully by seeing comments like this, people won't make the same mistake I did. Or Chase will consider, probably some time in the far future depending on their deal with Mastercard, changing the card back to a Visa.
