It's designed for longevity. That non-replaceable rechargeable lithium ion battery in a PS3, PS4, or PS5 controller will be shot 10 years down the line and unusable. 30 years from now when you're retro gaming with the grandkids, you can just pop in AAs or add in your own removable lithium ion and it will work like brand new.
I used to also complain until I realized this. I thought it was a cop-out and thought the separate rechargeable lithium ion pack was just a cash grab. Now I wish Sony would do the same, because I don't know how I'll play the MGS Legacy collection on my PS3 20 years from now...

Can confirm that my OG Xbox One controllers still work amazingly. I buy those plug and play packs (they come with two batteries and a back, and then you can just charge them on the stand. When those batteries stop charging (mine haven't yet), I can do something similar or just go with regular AA batteries. Wish the red hadn't sold out. Trying to decide on a color now.
These are great deals, I told my wife we could each have a controller to play pc games, then I mentioned the pink one was so expensive. Like 100 dollars. It arrives tomorrow.
I picked up the Electric Volt one, been wanting it for a while now. I wanted one for my gaming PC and one for my Series S and can now do two players for when I have friends over. Thanks a lot OP! Much appreciated.

IMO, much better to have a built-in battery like ps3,4,5, switch and just have to replace IF it ever goes bad. Replacement batteries for rechargeable controllers are super cheap and easy to replace. This won't be an issue for most people. I've never had a controller battery go bad.
I find that it is much more of a pain in the ass to have to replace the rechargeables in my xbox controller I use for my PC and was a super pain back when I had 4 wii remotes. Not including a rechargeable battery in a remote is just being cheap (even worse with Microsoft not even really changing up the controller this generation and still charging the same price).

That's a fair point. Actually, that makes good sense. Thank you.

Yeah don't indulge sellers trying to gouge you if you really want a pink or off color one. The design lab controllers retail for $70 https://xboxdesignlab.xbox.com/
