I got a refurbished iPhone Xr last spring from TF. It didn't unlock after 60 days, I was told that the device was initially activated before 11/23/2021. For devices activated prior to that date the minimum service requirement is 1 year. could not get Cr to budge. In June I traded it (still locked to TF) in for $700 off iPhone 13 Pro max on ATT at Costco without any issues.
Battery health was 100%
Some people mention a bad replacement screen on reconditioned TF iPhones - I didn't notice any issues with screen.
In August I got another reconditioned XR with $50 off promo (6000 TF rewards points) primarily as a backup for kids when they will eventually break their iPhones. The screen felt a little laggy on that one, not sure if this is due to replacement screen. Battery health still 100%

Got a mint phone with 100% battery life and warranty until May of next year. Guess it will be a gift to someone in family after it unlocks

Got mine today. Can anyone clarify if you can trade in the phone immediately or do you need to wait to unlock it? Seen contradicting posts about failed trade ins. Specifically Best Buy and ATT. I plan to trade in one at each.

traded mine in at bestbuy today without any issues. selected Verizon as carrier during the online purchase process for Pixel7. no need to wait til it unlocks

Defective upon arrival. The swipe up does not work. Factory reset and it still does not swipe up. Cannot do anything can't even send it up. Spent three calls and an hour and 40 minutes to do a return.

Received a brand new phone with screen cover. Warranty till Aug 2023.unlocking in 60 days.
Thought of tradein but after seeing the phone, i changed my mind. I can use it for next 2 years without any doubt. Thanks for posting this one.

Traded mine in with bestbuy this afternoon. No issues. I selected Verizon but doubt it mattered. Wipe it clean and remove sim.

How does the unlock happen if you no longer have service? i.e. if you were to activate the first month and let the service lapse and then it automatically unlocks in 60 days. Is the unlock something that is sent to Apple so service need not apply if you got the iPhone connected to wifi?

Yeah, the device ID is sent to Apple's servers and it gets unlocked from there. The SIM doesn't have to be in the phone, but having it in seems to speed the phone showing as unlocked slightly based on some reports. Note that service-level communications and calls / texts to 611611 and emergency numbers will still work using the cell signal even without active service.

Now it makes sense why it's easy for them to send out defective phones. Poor customer service (all csr from one country), they just keep you on hold forever to do a simple return, promise to refund and send postage paid label and never do.
