These dongles do offer more than what Smart TVs have. Typically in the form of additional RAM and processing power. I can't bother with my Smart TV functions because it lags, no matter what TV you use, versus a proper Android box Roku stick or whatever.

And so it begins. The 4K streaming platform wars is just starting. Hopefully this will encourage reduced pricing. A lot of TVs already have built in smart TV capabilities. These dongles need to offer more than what smart tvs already provide.

These dongles do offer more than what Smart TVs have. Typically in the form of additional RAM and processing power. I can't bother with my Smart TV functions because it lags, no matter what TV you use, versus a proper Android box Roku stick or whatever.

I do agree with that. My Roku TV built in a TCL is already slowing down. Need to buy an Apple 4K TV simply because of the HomePod integration. Apple gotta being their price down.

Yeah, our TCL with built in Roku TV became unusable last year, and TV's not yet four years old. "Upgraded" to a Fire TV Stick 4K last year...and while Amazon does push the ads it is usable and stable platform. I will never buy a "smart" TV with the streamer platform built in ever again. Dongles only for life, here... Smilie

The stick also does NOT support Ethernet via a USB adapter, as far as I can tell. I'm upgrading from an old chrome cast in the travel kit, along with a GLInet router and a usb Ethernet adapter, and want the Ethernet functionality.

I have a Roku Streaming Stick 4k plugged into the back of my receiver & it keeps overheating & cutting out. I'm thinking about stepping back to this so hopefully it will work better.
