IF isn't hard. You choose a window to not eat, probably start with 14 hours. On the 15th hour, you eat normal meals — you don't gorge, oversnack, or go crazy.
Example: your first meal is at 12PM. Your last meal is at 8PM. After that, you don't consume anything with calories until 12PM the next day. That's a ~15 hour fasting window.
The first week or two is tough, but your body adapts and you no longer feel hunger or desire to eat during the fasting window. As a consequence, your body will use the fat storage on your body for energy — thus weight loss. Combine it with nutritious meals and regular exercise and the whole process happens faster.
Eventually you start increasing the fasting window to 15, 16, 18hrs as it gets easier for you (and it really does). You can even challenge yourself to 24+ hours occasionally.
After a while you'll wonder why you ever ate 3 meals a day. It's not a diet plan, it'll just become your lifestyle. You can mix it with a diet plan like Keto and really REALLY see results.
There I saved you $3. Go buy an OLED TV.
i did 20:4 over 2 months and lost 15 pound for a wedding.
you can find Ketone Test Strips on amazon or ebay cheap
they're a great way to confirm your fast should be working
and that motivated me to fast longer. i ate anything, but did
avoid empty calories from sugars and refined white starches.
the rest of the time i had sugar free ice tea and chewing gum.
if you're not sure you can fast, try skipping breakfast at first
then be mindful not to snack so you'll get up to 16:8 easily.
ketosis really kicks in at 18:6 so work you're way up to there.
become aware of your snacking habits, like don't leave stuff
by your desk where you work or media room where you chill.

And if you're already insulin resistant from years of this garbage, cutting out most fruits will help tremendously as well.
What this book will clue you into is the little things that will sabotage a fast that might not seem obvious.
The other comment that mentions combining keto with IF is solid. When you control your blood sugar and insulin, the weight falls right off. Right now in my life I still enjoy bad food and this method let's me enjoy it without getting fat.
If three bucks is too steep, get it at the library.

If keto and IF helps you maintain a caloric deficit, then that works for you.
