The i3-13100 is a refresh anyways, slightly better frequency, same chip, because AMD doesnt even make anything worthwhile in this price range. So yeah, this is a good deal for those looking for an entry level CPU. In gaming it beats a i7-9700k, but its limited due to having only 4 cores despite being them being fast, you ideally should consider the 12400f with 6 cores for a bit more, as that can beat the 11900k in gaming.
Casual reminder: unless you are playing above 144hz, all of this is comically moot and that CPUs for gaming have insane diminishing returns. For the most part, if you are playing 4k 120hz on a 3090Ti, you will not see any difference at all between this and a 12900k.
Personally: buy this then upgrade to clearance i5 13th gen a few years down the line. You won't see much of a real performance difference but you will pay hundreds less.

This seems like a smoking deal. I know 13s are coming but this chip has decent performance for the price and it's compatible with multiple platforms (ddr4 & 5).

There are games that are 100% CPU bottlenecked at 4k, and im not talking strategy/simulation games which are almost always CPU bottlenecked. Spiderman remastered is a perfect example of this:

The other issue is the .1% lows are much lower on these entry level/old CPUs. Its hard to find 4k benchmarks to demonstrate this as CPUs are rarely tested at 4k, but here's an example at 1440p where the average FPS across CPUs looks the same, but the .1% lows paint a very different picture, and would create noticeable stutters:
The 12900k is only 4% faster than a 10700k in average FPS at 1440p, but 44% faster in .1% lows.
If someone is paying $1600+ for a flagship GPU, they really shouldnt be pairing it with a $100 CPU or old CPU, no matter how good the value, as there is still a noticeable difference at 4k. Im not saying you need to buy an i9-13900k, but people should at least be aiming at midrange CPUs to pair with a flagship GPU.

This chip smokes as a mid gaming setup, Avgs 25% CPU under full load running 1440p gaming!

Competitive gamers don't play at 4k though, they play at 1080 for the extra frames. 1080 is almost always CPU bound. I agree with your logic for casual/visual gamers but not for people that want every frame

Absolutely, if you want to design your $2000 system to play best with a 1080p monitor go for it with a $400 CPU.

Huh? You can get a 5600G for 130 or 3600X for 80 if near a Microcenter. AMD absolutely does play in this space.

Was hoping to wait for the 13400F as the passmark scores are considerably better. I will be using the CPU for transcoding.
