Assuming all other things are equal between this and the $280 Ryzen build, and I'm confident they are because it seems like Gateway just has one 15" shell that is uses for all it's various configs, this is much better than that deal. 16GB RAM >>>> 512GB SSD.

Edit: Just noticed this is 14", which will actually be preferable from a portability perspective and also means a higher pixel density. Personally, I feel that 14" is the sweet spot for laptops. The only drawback for some will be the color, but if you can live with that then I think this is the way to go.

Ths Gateway laptops does not have FN lock key. It means you have to type 'FN' key for using F1~F12 keys. It is very annoying if you use some software having shortcut using F keys.

There's no option to permanently set that in the BIOS?

Same here! That's why I clicked on this link, to see if it was really the Gateway I was thinking of from back in the day, lol! AND IT IS! I'm shocked tho, I really didn't think they still existed. When my 17" Gateway laptop finally died just a few years ago, and it lasted a lonnnnng time, I swear I looked for Gateway and couldn't find it anywhere. Ended up with a Lenovo.

1 GHz processor? It's worse than an intel atom.
that's the base clock, which is basically the guaranteed minimum speed. the number that matters is the boost clock (3.6ghz).

There not. It's a zombie company. Acer bought the company 15 years ago, folded it and is using the name to sell now.

Gateway (and eMachine) was full of fraud for years before being bought and completely gutted by Acer.

Not sure who make them now, likely some sub-sub-sub Chinese company of Acer.

I remember getting several of their computers in the 90's.
