Is this overkill if I plan on hooking it up to a surround sound system?
Definitely not. I have my A80J connected to a pretty elaborate surround sound. It performs perfectly and is beautiful, especially for movies. I've had zero issues with the sound swapping to external audio.

We have this TV in this size, and it's outstanding for TV, movies, and sports. If you want a 77" TV and have $2K lying around, stop comparing/shopping and get this one.

Man, I just bought a 77" C2 a couple weeks ago for $2,500. This will be $2,160 after tax. The C2 is slightly better according to Rtings [rtings.com]. But I wonder if it's $340 better? Or, more to the point, is it worth $340 for me to try and return a 77" TV? I'd have to rent a truck and get a friend to help. I'll probably just keep what I got....

This is a great deal, though!

(P.S. There should be a way to block certain categories for a period of time after you've made purchase. So you don't get bombarded with buyer's remorse triggering deals. laugh out loud )

I misread it, dork. Not to mention that that's just one aspect. It was better in other areas.

I think this is still eligible for 5% cash back when using Amazon prime credit card
I hear using that card is a nightmare. Is thus true?

Shame there isn't a 65 inch on sale too. 77 too big for me.

No you still got a good deal, the c2 has full bandwidth hdmi 2.1 on every port, only 2 ports are on the Sony, and one of them is ARC so the C2 is more future proof, as well as using the new EVO panel for 2022, not to mention the Dolby vision on the Sony a80j was pretty dim on most movies, I returned the 77" a80j it for the G1 which I paid $2800 for, I paid $2050 for the Sony, I thought it was worth it. I also find the LG just easier to use for adjusting settings. One more thing, LG stands behind there display more and make more exceptions for OLEDs, people have gotten there screen replaced 3-4 years out of warranty, Sony does not do this.

No nightmares on my end yet. Not sure in what way its a nightmare. I do get cash back as per their policy and have set up auto payments so that i dont have to deal with missing a payment.

When you guys do Rtings comparisons bear in mind that the score is a complete sum of different categories, the C2 for instance will score higher in gaming and most likely pc usage, it will probably also get the nod in brightness but this does not tell the full story. Rtings most likely measured a 65 A80J which did not carry the WBE or Evo panel until later on in production, the 77 A80J will have the Evo panel and the extra brightness will be enabled in the software by Sony. It is also good to note LG OLEDs will almost always measure brighter but this advantage is not seen during use (except the G2).

IMO the only LG that beats the A80J or A80K is the G2 due to the ability to produce brighter highlights in SOME scenes, the C2 is a great tv and i actually prefer LGs processing this year over Samsungs processing in the S95B, the Sony XR just adds a little extra sauce tho and is still the best in my eyes.
