And your car air and cabin air filters and low MPR furnace filters. It's why Home Depot will ship you a $5 one in a 36x14x8" box for free. They wouldn't if their profit weren't so high. I have to hack my XFWE from GE/Haier. Total hassle.

You could bypass the OEM filter, and put a good generic ahead of it. Mount new filter, on the back of the fridge for easy access.

Build quality and finish on my whirlpool is not good. The little chrome finish piece around the water/ice dispenser squeaks if you touch it as an example. Just cheap and poor fitted. The freezer handle also will not tighten to fit without a slight wobble. Poor attention to detail. If it wasn't a 1000lbs and I noticed all the issues sooner I would have returned it.

I had a fridge water supply put in garage to connect to my older Samsung. Quicker ice and better tasting water out of the fridge/filter. That helps. No idea how to do what you are suggesting.

Just buy it and research, most of the time it don't ship quick and can always cancel if you change your mind.

Whirlpool is no longer an option for my family. The LED light in the refrigerator went out. It costs about 1/4th the cost of the total refrigerator just for the part ($300)... Remember when you could go to the hardware store and buy a light bulb for your refrigerator and it cost 10cents? fark Whirlpool for over engineering something so dumb.
