P41 is faster overall metrics but this one is faster in QD1 read/writes which is what primarily matters for most IO tasks (OS drive perf).
Can't go wrong with either. At this price though I'd choose Samsung.

P31 is a gen3 drive and can't be compared with these two.
Waiting for $139 price range.
THIS! Came here to post the same. I bought this for $249 in July, so $171 with the CB on the Prime card is a deal. Below is a link to my review with CrystalMark.

This was for the second slot in my Lenovo Pro 5 i7-12700h RTX 3070 from Walmart for $1599 that came with a 1TB Samsung PM9A1, which is an OEM version of the 980.

FYI, that laptop supports 64GB RAM despite Lenovo's specs (which dropped over $50 also in just 3 months).

I think this is a great deal if you also use your amazon credit card for an 10% cash back vs the normal 5%.

If my pc has 2 m.2 drive slots can I put this into the second and clone the first over to boot from this moving forward and then reformat the original drive and use it for storage?

Sorry I'm dumb. How do you get the 10% cash back instead of 5%? I didn't know that changed.

If you have a 980 Pro for the first one I would suggest cloning a backup onto a second drive housed in an enclosure. Otherwise, unless I'm mistaken, you'll have issues (or rather your computer will) recognizing which drive is the boot drive.

It's also a good idea to keep your backup offsite or in some other part of your home so that if you get hit by an electrical surge you don't loose to drives.

These are just my preferences and suggestions.

If you don't need it now, it might be better to wait (but further discounts in the future are always a gamble)...

Quote from https://www.storagenewsletter.com/2022/10/10/sharply-lower-demand-causes-concern-in-asia-storage-supply-chain/ :
The general feedback is that by mid-2023 after NAND vendors offer up nearly 40% to 50% per-bit price declines, the flash industry will no longer offer further price reductions following what will be a year of market softening.
Read as: SSD prices will get to their cheapest around mid-2023 before rebounding.

Going to use this in my PC gaming build. Should I pay the extra $20 for the heat sink?
