DLSS 3 sucks. It's just (fake) frame generation, which have been built into HDTVs for years now, and increases input lag. Hopefully every game will have an option that allows you to toggle between DLSS 3 and 2, so I can avoid the added latency of the former.

I am not sure if you read the reviews correctly...but the data posted by reputable folks from today's embargo being lifted shows that the 4090 is 20-80% faster then a 3090ti, favoring 4k. Less gains at 1080/1440p. So unless you are rocking a 4k monitor...$1600 on a 4090 vs $600-800 on a 3080 ti....(which is a 3090 chip with less memory)...the 3080ti is the better deal.

Ars tech did the backwards math that showed the 4080 12gb (aka 4070 ti) will land around a 3080ti in performance given its 60% core count vs. the 4090. The extra memory doesnt matter for gaming these days.

I'd easily do a 3080ti at 700 over a 4080 at 899 (for founders, so over 1k for after market)

sweet spot over 4 series:
600-700 for 3080ti

4090 performance is so effng impressive that I would have a hard time buying the 30 series now. Hate saying this myself but wait for the price of the 40 series to come down. Watch any 4090 reviews whenever you have the urge to buy a 3090. It will literally make you feel like you're throwing $900 away down the drain.

i felt you are moving the goal post? no one has to justify how to spend their own money so do whatever you want. However, what i am confused is that you look at testing between 4090 and 3090TI, somehow come up with the idea that 3080Ti or 3090Ti would be a better buy than 4080.. at 800 dollar? 3080 TI is not 3090Ti, and 4080 is not 4090.. 4 completely different products, not sure how you came up with your decision.

what i said was simply that website shows a leaked 4090 in time spy shows 72% improvement over 3090TI, which is an actual number show in the arts article (19103 vs 10113). so the "leaked" data, at least as far as 4090 goes, was actually valid and true, so it may extend to other "leaked data" such as 4080 and 4070

and while art is great at many things, testing GPU is not their strong point, nor would i consider their testing is "reputable". for example. they don't even disclose their setups for getting any of their numbers.... it is not repeatable. their conclusion on 4080 prediction aren't backed by any data. at least the rumored website provided some test data.
