FYI, BB has the same MacBook Air - open box excellent condition- for $703. I ordered one , received today w 1 battery cycle and warranty expiring in 11.5 months. Basically a brand new machine that was used once.
Great alternative deal.

They are comparable . you should be able to run same software and OS on both. One is touch one is not.
There are macOS only apps and sometimes the iPadOS version sucks. I wouldn't say they're equal

Why would you get Air when you can get Pro for $120 more ?

Because that Pro is not a pro. 8 GB / 256 is laughable for such a laptop, and makes it a throwaway in 3 years or so. Swap file use (like with video and photo apps) will kill the soldered storage. Look for the comments on that Costco thread.
An Air is used mostly for lighter duty, so should last longer.

do not pay anything more than $700 for a 8gb 256gb model in 2022. Not worth it.

the same deal showed up in the last year BF. I feel the deal should be sweeter after almost 1 year.

Was about to place order and price changed, got screenshot of previous price. Will them match in store?

I don't recommend anyone to get the 8gb model. I had the 8gb M1 Mac mini, which has the exact same spec and had continual ram issues.
What were you doing on your Mac? And what do you mean by "continual issues?"

On my base M1 air with 8GB, I can run 3 RAW photo editors side by side simultaneously plus iMovie plus Firefox or Chrome with 15-20 tabs open and still don't have "RAM" issues.

Unless you mean RAM issues is the same thing as using swap. Yes, you do use swap. But it's so fast I don't even notice.

Will this burn out your SSD? Yes. Eventually. But even with how I'm using my machine I forecast I'll get at least 6-7 years of use out of it.

Very different O/S for each and while you can run some iOS on the MBA…

Ipad apps are not really a great experience on it…

Definitely not.

Better prices are likely around the holidays, anyway.

Sure, but you're chewing up your soldered storage due to excessive swap file use. Fast forward to 4 years from new, and you may well find your 6-7 years of use is a fantasy. The post-Jobs New Apples are throwaways with planned accelerated obsolescence. .

Did you read my last paragraph?

I know how to measure % of disk write usage on my SSD and forecast that forward.

6-7 years of use is plenty for me before upgrading.

YMMV
