Open frame non inverter generator. It would be very noisy. Although it said it is "approved to use in all 50 states", I think California is banning any gas power generator.

Most generators over 10K are going to be loud. Rated at 74db is moderate for a generator this size , especially when it's powering your whole house.

I checked it out and saw the 12000 eh was at 50%off (700)and jumped on that. Went back to check it again at it's now at 1099. Hope they ship it.

It is more about the generator type rather than the size. Any conventional generators, large or small, are much noisier than inverter generator. There are 10kW inverter generator with ~60dB. While the 5kW model of this brand of dual fuel conventional generator is still ~70dB. Inverter generator are much more expensive though. Nevertheless, considering the cost to have the autoswitch panel and installation, you may still want to spend the extra money for an inverter model so you can sleep.
