Not sure where you get the 4.25% from. It's their normal rate plus 1%, so currently 3.25%.
Edit: My bad, 4.25% annualized.
I opened up an account Wednesday evening. I haven't gotten any email confirmation about the 1% bonus. Did u guys get the email after your account was funded or right away? Thanks
Any limits to daily withdrawals or other negative quirks about Ally?
There are some high interest-paying accounts that have high interest rates like the Dollar Savings Direct but I've read some bad stuff about them.
They seem generally fine to me, I've used them for years. But I don't use them as my main bank account ... they are just used for deals like this.
Reps may be a pain sometimes to get a hold of during busy times, but otherwise they seem like any other bank to me.
If you want a bank to use as a regular bank, I'd first recommend somewhere that has local branches (just in case of potential issues)... and then pick a couple to use as backups online. I like Discover, they have super nice reps that seem to pick up the phone quickly, so they would be a decent backup option.
And depending on the amount you have, it's fine to play the bank bonus game. Just rotate through them until there isn't any left (Citi, Captial One, Chase, etc).
Oh, also want to mention a little thing you can do if you decide down the road to go with a local bank just to keep some cash tucked away -- like Chase or BOA, etc. They pay nothing as far as interest goes, but most have self-directed brokerage accounts. So you can park your money with them inside a money market (like vanguard, which is pretty safe and dollar for dollar) ... it's not the same as a sweep fund, as it'd take a day or two to sell, but it's still better than leaving it in a non-paying savings/checking account.
Open checking account and deposit 30k to get $500 and maintain for 60 days then covert into savings account and earn 2.20 APY

The subject of the email is You're one step closer to getting your cash bonus
I had opened an account without funding it initially.
