Does anyone know if the phone being traded in has to be paid off? Currently I have an S22 Ultra that is being paid off, I want to trade it in, pay off the Pixel difference of $200 for the 512gb version, and ideally keep paying off the S22 even though I no longer have it.

At Best Buy not a problem to trade in if not paid off so long you keep paying to prevent it from getting blacklisted...that's a big reason people trade in to BB, so often very lenient and you know then and there if any problems. For trading in to cell carriers, it generally seems ok so long it's not where you're trying to trade in to the same carrier you're financing with. For example, T-Mobile knows if it's financed through them but not others, so as long as it's not their own phone, they don't know and no problem.

If the entity receiving the trade in knows the phone is financed (because they are financing it) they will make you pay it off and that's when you need to be concerned.

I wish I could, but BB won't accept phones with cracked screens.

Just adding another data point about what may happen in instances where the trade in value credit is higher than the original charge. I chatted with support today and they said the full amount of credit will go back to the original form of payment. However, if it will be given as a store credit if there are any issues during the refund process.
