What exactly am I missing with this TV vs LG's flagship OLEDs? I am upgrading from a 3 year old TCL 6 series, so this would be a huge upgrade regardless, but just curious what I am missing vs something like the C1.
There's too much for me to get into, but a couple bullet points are the C1, and especially the C2, are a lot brighter. The HDR brightness on this is very poor, so you're not getting anywhere near the best image you can get. This TV honestly defeats the purpose of getting an OLED. The only real OLED thing you get with this is the perfect black level, since OLEDs aren't backlit. This also doesn't have any HDMI 2.1 ports, so you can't do any 120fps gaming, if you have one of the new consoles.
Here's a side-by-side comparison of the two. https://www.rtings.com/tv/tools/c...shold=0.10

from worst to best (and worst is still much better than 90% of the TV's out there)
A - B - C - G - Z

A and B are 60hz
C and G are 120hz
Z is 8k

B series is native 120Hz, unlike the A which is 60. This really only matters for video gaming.
I do agree with even the "A" series is better than most tvs in peoples home, it's an Oled so excellent contrast, now regarding the misinformation regarding brightness , when rtings does these tests it's in accurate mode, but in theory tv can be much brighter.

Finally most hdr content is very low bit brightness regardless

It is absolutely not misinformation regarding brightness. Are you kidding me? Now you're the one spreading misinformation.

What about the Samsung OLED for day and night? Those are brighter than the LG.
But all the reviews say the blacks become purple when the lights hit the screen on the Samsung.

Well, not misinformation, more like misperception. The A1 isn't very bright by today's standards, but is brighter than prob 80%+ of TVs from 5 years ago, and brighter than 99% 10 years ago. People act like it's not bright enough to watch during the day even, which is absolutely not true. I have a friend that has one in a room full of windows and it's fine for 95% of content even in those conditions.

I have a 65 c series 2019 model. That damn thing is so bright on certain content, it hurts my eyes!😂
I don't need it any brighter. I run mine in cinema mode for HDR content.

Excellent deal, $2400 retail as low $1800 on close out. No hdmi 2.1 /4k 120Hz, but if you watch only tv/movies this can be an excellent buy for the price!

You're still going to get excellent contrast, those beautifully inky blacks and great color.

Good find OP 🔥
You can still very well game on it. Not everyone is a hardcore gamer and very limited titles which will benefit from 120hz panels. Few folks want to trash every A series deal as if it's a junk TV. It still remains a top class OLED TV which other LED LCD TVs can't match with.

Have you checked ratings review on this A series TV? My TV is setup near a window and it's on dark settings. Still looks good and perfectly watchable. No idea why A series keeps getting misinformation or judgements all the time even from non users.

Samsung sucks ...Samsung TVs do not support Dolby Vision, due to additional manufacturing costs and additional license fees

Debating if I should cancel my Amazon Sony A80J 77 for $1999 and get this one instead. But it's $1653 for me plus shipping so seems better to get the A80J for $350 more.
I would keep the Sony. Consumer Reports said it has better hdr, sound, and motion than the LG.
