Love the new layout of the remote but the pass thru for powering everything on/off is less than stellar when connected directly to a receiver.
Apple pointed their finger at Yamaha and vice versa. Found several forms with the same model of Apple TV and different brands/models of receivers with the same issue. Never had an issue with the last generation.
My solution was to connect the Apple TV directly to the TV and run the audio from there to the receiver and never a problem since. 🤦

Behavior occured once every few days of use.
They sent me a new remote but the only way I can avoid this behavior is hooking up the device directly to the TV.
Remote would half work (directional keys would work but other buttons like play, home, etc would not work unless you wait it out or hard rebooted the device.
Did not experience this behavior even time I used it but probably a few times a week.

This was on an LG CX OLED using Plex The interface on the Apple was much snappier, and there were zero ads. I would have strongly preferred the Apple TV but there just wasn't a way to adjust the colors for them to be inaccurate and overly saturated as I'm used to watching content as.

Many people will prefer the Apple TV, and it's still a solid pick and almost $90 less than the shield. It really comes down to personal taste and if you prefer color saturation or accuracy (The Shield has the ability to change its color space as well to mimic the look of the Apple TV as well if you prefer it to be accurate, whereas the Apple TV can only output it accurately).
