I'm equally suicidal as I am just waiting on a certain price point for the 55" A95K. If you never hear from me again you know what happened to me....

The panel lottery of WBC vs WBE exists across all versions of the 55 and 65 A80J or A80CJ, the fact that they measured the A80CJ as having weaker HDR performance would be the same if they measured one from Best Buy with the WBC panel, they are the same tv.

The only way Comsumer reports could come to a fair conclusion would have been to test two tvs with the same panel type, for example the 77 inch models, from what i see they tested the 55A80J and the 65A80CJ, there's your clue for panel lottery. Unfortunately, im not a member to see their testing methodology and how they came to that conclusion.
They usually buy at least 2 of products they test, except for cars of course. And just for example, the Samsung QN85A from Sam's Club had more powerful speakers than the regular QN85. The LG QNED85 from BJs has a next gen tv tuner while the QNED85 bought anywhere else doesn't. Phones are another example of where internal parts are different for the same model sold at different places. Food bought at the dollar store is from different suppliers than the same brand that's sold at Walmart for example, as told to me from someone that works in the industry. Tires sold on new cars are different than the ones sold to you as a customer because the ones on new cars are the ones that balanced the best. Point being is just because something looks the same doesn't mean it is. If they have actually tested the TVs how can y'all tell them they are wrong and that they are exactly the same?

You provided examples with multiple products across multiple retailers, we are talking about the A80J vs A80CJ, i spend every year buying and testing these tvs, I'm very fortunate to know a few pro calibrators i consider good friends, i get to see these tvs uncalibrated and calibrated, i myself will probably take up the ISF course soon as well, i spend some of free time reading forums and looking at the measurements posted from calibrators with pro grade equipment.

This is in no way throwing shade at Consumer reports but if i and many others over at the owners thread, calibration threads and multiple calibrators in general could possibly be wrong then so could they be wrong as well.

Also bear in mind while some budget or mid-tier tvs will have varying difference like speaker wattage or remote control differences, usually the top tier models will have the exact same specs, for instance this year the A80K at Costco has a backlit remote, the X90CJ has three year warranty instead of 1 on the X90J. If i didnt see these tvs tested then i could not confidently say performance wise they are the same.

This the reason u get married.?Thanks now i am more sure then ever never to get married. I like to be independent as long the bills paid and money saved for a rainy day, do as u like with it. But all their own, i hate being on a short leash or being told how to spent the money i work so hard for
Very small sacrifice for the myriad of other benefits. After 30 years of marriage you know when to pick your battles for a peaceful life. Marriage is definitely not for everyone, especially for someone like yourself with that kind of outlook, but when you want to share and build your life with someone you definitely have to learn the art of compromise, especially when you think that other person is worth it. I do understand where you're coming from though, sometimes I ponder on that kind of lifestyle but quickly get my mind off it when I remember the quality of life my marriage to a wonderful person has given me which I don't think a single life would've given me. In a single life I may be just sleeping on a mattress with about a dozen high end tvs around me 😁

I found 1 open box excellent condition in my area for $649. I ended up adding 2 year protection which I normally don't do, but figure that's worth the peace of mind just in case it was returned for some issue. Thanks OP!

I picked up an open box for 650 yesterday in my area.... The wife had been giving dirty looks all night and morning.
Ur right, whenever I look to buy something my wife says we don't need it! We also don't need all the cash she puts in cards for every holiday out there. She used to walk in a Hallmark and drop $75 to $100 on cards alone. Thank God most of them have closed. We still take long drives to find one if she needs a "special" card. Now she makes do with Dollar store. Most of Hallmark's cards and goods are made in China anyway. I tell her the money goes in their pocket and the card goes in the landfill. Think of the enviroment, right?

I bought an excellent rated open box tv that was a little over an hour away when I saw this original post. Got there and all accessories were missing, including stand, remote, and cords. In addition the TV set was shrink wrapped so it was hard to inspect. That said, I decided to cut my losses and decline the purchase despite wasting the time and gas to get there. I disputed that this set should not have been sold as "excellent" but it fell on deaf ears. I'm typically not a fan of Best Buy for its short return window and generally avoid it when I can. After this experience I will try to avoid shipping here even more. I would recommend calling to confirm condition prior to pickup.
Had a similar experience but I only decided to take it because it did have the power cable along with the remote. It was missing the stand but the manager gave me a free $80 universal stand that I think actually worked out better for me since this is just for my bedroom on a dresser. But yes I too suggest calling ahead before purchasing or picking it up to confirm condition.

recently picked up an "excellent condition" in my area . same price, they let me know the tv didn't come with remote or the legs to hold it up and had a big dent on the top but didn't mess with the picture…brought it home, tried it out and keeps going into demo mode even after reset, returning tomorrow . hope you had better luck

You called it mostly although I don't think the tv itself is damaged. It was missing the remote and stand as well. I don't understand why that is a common issue and why they consistently mislabel that. I got another $50 for my troubles and going to buy a universal stand on Amazon and try to get a replacement remote from Sony. Either way if the TV is functional it's a great deal without the parts. I got the warranty as well so I wonder how they would cover that in this scenario.

Grabbed one today - huge upgrade over my cheapo $300 TV I bought a few years ago. I have nothing else to compare it to, but it looks amazing.
