Just bought one, using citi card for extra 2 yr warranty > 5% off from Red card (~$14), will this be the right way to pay?

Also, to buy a RAM to add, should I buy a 8GB to make it total to $16, or just buy a $16 one to replace the original one?

Thanks!
You cannot replace the original 8GB, it's soldered. You may add a stick of 8GB SODIMM, to make it 16GB totally with dual-channel.
However, I strongly believe that it could support a 16GB stick or even a 32GB stick.

So it's 1 8gb stick in there not two 4's correct?

In for one. Should be a nice boost over my current walmart gateway ryzen 3 3200u with an ever growing keyboard bubble/tumor which is displacing the trackpad lid.

The ram chip is soldered onto the motherboard directly, There is NO stick. That's why it is NOT replaceable.

You can add a stick of ram since there is one ram slot for that purpose only.

Edit: the soldered ram chips could be 4 x 2GBs for single channel, we don't know unless been opened it up and see. If you add a stick of ram it will be dual channel which could speed up a bit.

hope this clears the question, sorry just realized what you might be asking.

I need a PC to replacing an aging i5-5200 for general household use and network plex server; doesn't need to be a laptop since I use it only with an external monitor and keyboard/mouse. Is there a better deal price/performance wise? This is $260 after tax with my red card and birthday promo.

Idea might be looking at dellrefurbished.com deals at the desktop computers. They have 50% off some models. Probably be able to get better specs than this laptop for the same price, especially if it's just going to be sitting there, used only with a monitor, and for plex server. This is an entry level i3 processor, but 12-gen seems to be good.

If that's because of a swollen battery then it's a potential bomb

If you just need to achieve dual channel on the ram to have it speed up a tiny bit more, you can get 2, 4, 8, 16, 32GBs all up to you depends on how much more you wish to spend. Otherwise 8GBs is enough.

Yes it should, but why spend so much do you really need that much ram? If you wish to spend 400 dollars you can get better laptop instead of this one.

Good for ~$260 price point (after all discounts)

Cons per my view:
- TN panel screen
- No backlit keyboard as per details on the Specifications page

Given the current state of PC sales, I hope better deals will be available around thanksgiving.
I never realized how valuable the backlit keyboard is. Not a complete dealbreaker for me, but I'll hold out.

Great value especially if you use external display and kb/mouse. Two ram slots would win me over.
