Great to see 12th Gen laptops hitting this price level. However, this has a 220nits 1080P TN panel.
The 8GB 3200 MHz RAM is soldered, but there is an empty SODIIMM slot for upgrade.

Just unboxed this thing and set it up. Pretty much everything I expected was confirmed, but it was slightly better than expected. It's fast and light, and the keyboard and the touchpad are very good quality (esp for the price). As reported by others and reviews, the screen isn't great. Contrast is awful and it's not super vivid. And colors are slightly off, even after calibrating color a bit. But: the anti-glare is very effective, and it is bright enough to use outdoors or in bright areas. If you want to watch movies or do any video/photo editing as a primary function, you might not be satisfied with this screen. But for a general productivity machine that's pretty fast, very portable, and near bargain-basement pricing, it definitely meets my needs. Not saying I wouldn't pay $50 more for a significant upgrade in color & contrast, but for $270, it's hard to complain too much. I've never gotten this much for this little on a regular sale for a new laptop.

Update: I'm finding it difficult to open up the bottom to access the rumored extra DIMM slot. It seems harder than usual to open up, I'm concerned that it may not be upgradable. Can anyone confirm if this laptop does indeed have an extra memory slot that is accessible without damaging the device? I'm afraid to break it.

Don't buy Office if you don't specifically need it. Really consider whether Google Docs (Word) Google Slides (Powerpoint) Google Sheets (Excel) and the rest of Google's FREE options don't meet your needs. They have most of the features of Office, and are designed much easier to use. Pro tip: you can open a new Google doc by typing 'docs.new' or 'sheets.new' into a web browser. SO EASY. MS Office is overly complex which makes finding whatever feature you need tedious. Plus, it's expensive over the long run, and it's a system hog.

Also, LibreOffice is great, free, and isn't a system hog. Great MS Office alternative.

If you REALLY need MS Office, you can subscribe to Office 365. One perk is you get cloud storage, so you can back up your whole system for a reasonable cost since you insist on buying junk software anyway. laugh out loud In case the laptop is destroyed, lost, or the hard drive fails. I'll let you explore plans and pricing on your own, just google 'microsoft office 365 plans'

I previously purchased the Walmart Gateway deal for $279, but this seems to be a better deal when comparing the specs. The screen is smaller, but plan on using a monitor when docked. I expect better support from Lenovo, and this capable of memory expansion. I'm ordering these and returning the Gateways to Walmart.

I was almost ready to buy a laptop I don't even need until I saw the TN panel spec. A very solid price for someone in need or trying to be very budget conscious! I tried a TN panel once a few years ago and just couldn't do it. That laptop was immediately returned. For those that can handle it or will be primarily using this with external monitors and need a basic machine, this really is a good deal. Coming off of the height of COVID prices makes this even more desirable as I'm sure many people avoided buying new equipment unless necessary over the last couple of years.

I bought one too but had to return it because they sent me a used one that still had the account of the person who returned it. I like AMD CPU for less energy consumption. And that laptop has an IPS screen and a bigger HD. It's a toss up really.

I picked the Lenovo today but will wait for better deals to come up. If not, it's perfectly fine as a TV laptop for me, TN panel and all.

I've been using a Ideapad 3 81WA00B1US I got a few years back on sale, and was looking to upgrade mostly for a higher resolution.
I recently bought a Gateway a few days back on sale listed here, but the keyboard, mousepad, and driver support all suck so I returned it.
I was excited to get this since it's a Lenovo and snagged one last night at 3am, went and picked it up around 10am.

Here's my thoughts:
  • Keyboard and touchpad feel very very similar to an apple product.
  • The processor is adequate for my needs (running Visual Studio 2022 mostly)
  • Once you tinker with Win11 a bit, it's dealable.
  • I was hesitant at first due to all the complaints about the screen, and I'm unfortunately here to confirm that their concerns are all valid.
  • It's fairly rough, it looks like alllll the light is bleeding through, there's no such thing as "black" on this thing, and it feels like you've got light-glare on it even in the dark.
  • I'm gonna hold on to it until Black Friday, but most likely will be returning it ONLY due to the screen. Everything else about it is fantastic!
